Doesn't Weaver have a big problem throwing strikes?

He had a not horrible 3.5bb/9 last down from like 2.2 his rookie year. Problem with a guy like weaver is he's sitting 88-92 (albeit with good movement) and his only other plus pitch is the change up. He threw one of those 2 pitches ~85% of the time last year. Hard to get away with that lacking an overpowering FB at the MLB level. He definitely has potential, but he was probably #7-8 in terms of cardinals SP depth this season. Cmart, Mikolas, Flaherty, Wacha, Reyes, Hudson, Wainwright, Gant, Gomber, Poncedeleon etc.

I don't doubt he turns into a very good reliever or middling starter at worst, with potential upside if he ever develops a 3rd pitch. Still very happy with this trade as a cards fan

His Zone% went down from 47% to 43%. O'Swing% went up, but still just 28.4%. Everything else was the same--contact rates, first pitch strike, overall swing rate.

I wasn't arguing in favor of weaver, just saying he has potential to improve. I can see why both sides would be happy with this trade.

I see a lot of shelby Miller in weaver though. Surprised the dbacks couldn't get more even if it was for one year of goldy. Young is the wild card, but I would be very surprised if Carson Kelly contributes above average offense at any point in his career based on his minor league numbers

The Dbacks need to see improvement over Alex Avila, Jeff Mathis, and John Ryan Murphy who had OPS+ of 59, 44, and 59 respectively last season.

That has to be one of the worst trades this decade. Avila and Wilson were/are complete trash.

Meanwhile Padedes destroyed the FSL in a way we haven't seen since Stanton. A 19 year old doing what he's doing...kid should be a top 10 prospect in the game right now. But wait, there's more? Just a 25 year old 3B putting up a 2.5 WAR season, will likely nestle into that 3-4 WAR range for his prime.

That's a really weird trade to randomly bring up a year and a half later. Standard deadline swap of middling prospects for areas of need in a playoff race.

Why is the Eovaldi signing good? He's 29, had 2 TJ surgeries, and pretty much never been even good aside from 54 innings last year for Boston. What am I missing?

Much cheaper than Corbin and quite a bargain if he comes anywhere close to pitching like he did last year, especially on the biggest stage where the Red Sox basically had a 1 man rotation of a David Price in the post season .

Do you know how hard it is to hit for power in the FSL? He put up HR numbers not seen in the FSL by a teenager since Stanton. Then played 39 games at AA where he OPS'd .864, while playing SS.

Not being insanely impressed by that is simply hating.

LOL, I can't tell if you're serious or just trolling now. He was tied for 11th in that league in HRs this year. Good for him, he'll probably move up a couple spots from his current ranking as the 13th best prospect in the Tigers' system. In fact, I bet he cracks the top 10. Maybe he'll even be a major leaguer someday.

I think they think he's a 5-WAR pitcher under normal circumstances. If they get half of that because of injuries, 10 wins is about value for 67 (?) million. One or two years of 160 IP is a bonus.
