I would be excited about landing maybe 2 of these available SP FAs. Morton and Bartolo. Jose Fernandez would have been able to buy a whole shipping container of coke if he was available this offseason. Corbin seems like a fluke and the Yanks will probably be the team that gets tricked in to overpaying for him.

Patrick Corbin (29 years old, 6.3 WAR)
Dallas Keuchel (31, 3.6)
J.A. Happ (36, 3.2)
Charlie Morton (35, 3.1)
Lance Lynn (32, 2.9)
CC Sabathia (38, 2.5)
Anibal Sanchez (35, 2.4)
Nathan Eovaldi (29, 2.2)
Gio Gonzalez (33, 2.0)
Hyun-Jin Ryu (32, 2.0)
Trevor Cahill (31, 2.0)
Derek Holland (32, 2.0)
Clay Buchholz (34, 1.9)
Wade Miley (32, 1.5)
Matt Harvey (30, 1.4)
Jeremy Hellickson (32, 1.2)
Garrett Richards (32, 1.0)
Tyson Ross (32, 1.0)
Brett Anderson (31, 0.9)
James Shields (37, 0.8) -- White Sox declined $16 million option (Oct. 29, 2018).
Jason Hammel (36, 0.8) -- Royals declined $12 million mutual option (Oct. 30, 2018).
Edwin Jackson (35, 0.7)
Adam Wainwright (37, 0.5) -- Reached agreement on one-year contract with Cardinals (Oct. 11, 2018).
Marco Estrada (35, 0.5)
Francisco Liriano (35, 0.3)
Doug Fister (35, 0.3)
Bartolo Colon (46, 0.2)
Yovani Gallardo (33, 0.1)
Jaime Garcia (32, 0.0)
Matt Moore (30, 0.0)
Martin Perez (28, -0.2)
Drew Pomeranz (30, -0.3)
Miguel Gonzalez (35, -0.3)
Chris Tillman (31, -0.4)
Ervin Santana (36, -0.5) -- Twins declined $14 million option (Oct. 30, 2018).

Maybe more intrigued about Eovaldi than any other FA this year, including Bro and Machado. Not a goddamn clue with he'll get for years or dollars, and it will take a long time to figure out if it's good or bad.

Brewers have lost both the hitting coach and pitching coach. Hitting coach resigned. Pitching coach went to...Cincy?

We have reached hot stove season in full now. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the Seattle Mariners are strongly considering a full blowup of their 89-win team, and purposefully pivoting towards a rebuild of a weak farm system. To that end, it sure sounds like left-handed ace James Paxton could be made available.
This changes things. JT Realmuto and Paxton will have bigger impacts than Bro and Manchado. imo.

Did Bryce Harper really turn down 10/$300M from the Nats?!?

Is there really going to be a better offer out there for him somewhere else?

No. He's going to accept 10 yrs $100M as long as he gets his locker next to his BF KB.

His best friend is Kyle Boddy?

I could see bro getting 35m+/yr fairly easily, but it won't be for 10 years.

Speaking boddy there are rumors that the WSox may take a go with bro. If boddy's boy Kopech can not be a bust after he returns from TJ and 23yo Yoan pans out, they'll have something to build around.

Would still be a horrible plan for the Sox though.

Joe Mauer retired.

Kudos to him for actually living the dream--play quality baseball for your hometown team and he did it his entire career. We may never see that again in sports.

Congratulations to baseball for finally realizing the whole point is to heap praise upon the Mets. The 3 words you're looking for are "guaranteed playoff spot" and that should make everyone happy. In the meantime, this team Cy Young award is acceptable.

Tigers are looking to move Castellanos, what's the market for him? He's a FA after this season, and is coming off a 3.0 WAR season, despite being used incorrectly (allowed to play defense)

He projects to be worth close to 30M next season, so there's going to be a huge surplus in value there with his contract, and the team trading for him figures to get a comp pick when he leaves. Seems like that should be able to net a top 50 prospect with 2 lottery tickets.

I reckon teams won't pay that for a DH with one season of control left, especially since it seems nowadays you can get yourself a ~110 wRC+ guy DH type for less than 10 million in March every year. Maybe it'd help if the Tigaaaazzzz could convince teams that he can fake it at 1B to create a market in the NL

I mean, Steamer has Castellanos projected at 1.8 WAR for 2019 and a 118 wRC+. Let's round that up a bit due to lol steamer, recent performance, and the still questionable reliability of defensive stats (even though we all know he's awful) and call it 2.5 WAR for 2019.

FG has Steve Pearce as their #38 FA, at 1.3 WAR in 2019. What are teams gonna pay for a one year, one win upgrade over a guy they could have at 8 million next year (average of median crowdsource contract estimate and Kiley McDaniel's).

Quote:
When the Yankees gathered in St. Petersburg, Fla., in the final week of the season for a players-only meeting to determine postseason shares, Robertson chaired the event that resulted in assistant hitting coach P.J. Pilittere getting voted a half share, Zac Fieroh, an analyst for the major league coaching staff and a regular in the traveling party, receiving nothing, and several support staffers who also travel regularly being cut from a year ago.

Coaches and trainers aren’t guaranteed a share, but historically are voted full shares, especially when they are as dedicated as Pilittere.
Quote:
For example, the 2017 World Series champion Astros gave out 60 full shares that came to $438,901.57 for each, out of a $30.4 million pot. At the other end of the deal was the Twins, who lost to the Yankees in the AL wild-card game and voted 62 full shares that came out to $18,990.36 per.

The 2017 Yankees, who went to Game 7 of the ALCS and lost to the Astros, voted 57 full shares (ninth among the 10 teams in the postseason) worth $138,897.63 each and 15.01 partial shares. It hasn’t been determined what the share for losing to the Red Sox in the ALDS will be, but in 2017 the Indians, who lost to the Yankees in the ALDS, voted 62 full shares that came out to $36,782.68 per.

****. Yankees got Paxton. They still aren't a threat to the BoSox or Astros, but it would have been a lot cooler if the Stros pulled the trigger, I guess they'll have to settle for Realmuto.

M's got Sheffield, but it seems like a light haul and Yankees ripped them off.

M's going in teardown mode. I guess it will be at least another 4 years.
