If Harold Baines is the standard for the HoF the HoF would be about 3 times its current size. Among recent Yankees, Mattingly, Williams, and Posada were all better players but I'm not about to go full ****** and induct everyone with a pulse.

I kind of feel bad for him now because he's going to forever be pointed to as a mistake and have his stats nitpicked every time someone wants to make a case for some borderline guy who's not in. Up until yesterday, people would've just remembered and respected him as a really good player and left it at that.

...

And wtf, if Baines gets in Mark Grace has to! He at least put up consistent 3-4 WAR seasons for a decade, unlike that bum who only did it once and just stuck around for a long time.

The voters.

Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven, Greg Maddux, Joe Morgan and Ozzie Smith; Joe Torre; executives Pat Gillick, Jerry Reinsdorf, Paul Beeston, Andy MacPhail and Al Avila; and media members Tim Kurkjian and Claire Smith of ESPN and Steve Hirdt of the Elias Sports Bureau

Harold Baines - Probably the most boring player I have ever watched. I used to throw away his baseball cards when I was a kid. He is your typical average player. That's it. Average.

But seriously, if Baines is in, Mattingly 1000% deserves to be in.
Baines probably makes the case for 50 guys. It's just not a good case, because it's probably a case for 50 guys. It is the only case for Mattingly and it isn't a very good one.

This. I really liked Harold Baines as a player and seemed like a good guy.

This has lead to me looking up a lot of stats. I didn't realize just how good Joe Morgan was. Over 100 bWAR, lead the league in OPS while stealing 60+ bases in consecutive years.

We also have Bernie Williams winning 4 straight Gold Gloves with 3 negative dWARs and a 0.0.

True that I failed to consider the skin pigmentation factor. Surely Escobar can bunt tho, he's played for Ned Yost his entire career.

I thought once Puckett got in Mattingly should have. From 84-87 he’s one of the best hitters in baseball. Then he hurts his back and was never the same. He and Puckett lifetime stats are almost identical.

Oh well, it was fun having a HOF that mattered but now even the baseball one has been ruined. As someone else said, I actually feel bad for Baines, this committee did him a disservice. He should be remembered as a good player and seems like he was liked by everyone. Now his name is a punchline for the HOF process.

Jays just released Tulo. They are going to eat all the salary, but as a Jays fan I think it is a good move.

Not long ago he was interviewed and asked something along the lines if he would consider 1B, DH or another position if it helped the Jays, and his response was that he wanted to compete for SS.. Sorry, wrong answer..

Unfortunately, he was either average, below average, or hurt the whole time with the Jays.

We never really got too many glimpses of the player he was.

Glad the Tulo saga is over....

Unless his body is completely shot, he will be snagged quickly by another team. League min for somebody not far removed from being great seems obvious.

Dear Yankees,

Please do not sign pieces of **** like Harper or Machado. Would prefer guys who don’t strike out in big spots.

Thanks,

All Yankees fans
