I guess an M's blowout makes for a greater chance that Ichiro plays the whole game, rather than get pulled for a PH in a tight spot, which is a good thing. Ichiro going dong would be awesome.

Who could have predicted that 2 boss opening day starters like Mike Fiers and Marco Gonzales(who?) would lead to a slugfest.

Vogelbach seems like a guy that might have a huge career in Japan or Korea.

As you can see, Marco Gonzales has the ability to be quite good.

How much do Japanese/Korean players get paid. Would a middling guy like Vogelbach make more here or more as a star there?

This park is a bandbox but that Beckham shot was out of anywhere. Santana has been my goto late round pick on all of my fantasy teams so I got that going for me

Not sure how the ball flies there, but it's 329-375-400-375-329. Think this one's on the pitchers.

Eloy signed 6/43 with 2 club options. Seems terrible from his perspective

Also quite strange that by signing this contract, he has fixed the "timing issues" he was sent to the minors to correct and will now be on the opening day roster.

System is broken

His first 3 years he is set to make ~$500k each. How is that bad?

The 2 club option years make it bad. 6/43 would be fine I guess on it's own, but if he comes anywhere near his potential he gave up a ton of money

You're right about the 42mil. Being locked up for 8/75 would have been bad for eloy.

Middles and hedging are a terrible proposition unless you have overbet your bankroll and need gurenteed capital. You have a + EV wager and u should not reduce your equity in this bet w a — EV wager .

Fangraphs adds catcher framing to WAR. Some pretty huge bumps in both career and single season WARs

Lol @ people whining about this contact. It isn’t bad...guy may give up money but he just set himself and him family up for life, even if he suffers a catastrophic injury. And if he pans out he’ll still make plenty more when he hits FA at 30.

43M is pretty much best case scenario earnings over your first 6 years, plus he gets more money several years earlier this way.

giving up the club options at the end are the cost to get that, but its not like 2/32M is rock bottom of the barrel. plus they probably **** him over by holding him down a month this year so hes really just sacrificing one FA season at $16M instead of best case $30Mish

That's the bull**** argument owners make when they are trying to short players. Yes it is generational life changing money, but it is short of what it should be.

Geez this conversation going to come up everytime. 3 players just got more than $300 million this offseason. Players don't give money back if they suck and/or get hurt. LOL at the teams wanting to be charitable ventures and not run like businesses to optimize the product on the field

Wow that's interesting. He actually was struggling (small sample size) in spring and was optioned to AAA like a week ago. I thought it was the perfect excuse to not have him up for a month. But sweet, I wanna watch the dude swing the bat!

If they wanted to "optimize the product on the field", they'd spent money. Instead, they pocket the cash and buy another yacht. Yankees fans especially should be rioting given their tiny payroll when compared to revenue, but they'll continue drinking $15 beers instead.
