There's also a tax implication California vs PA. Think I read the same value of what he signed in CA would need to be $20MM more. Plus if we're to believe Boras (yeah, I know), he says that Harper wanted to be a FA once, and stay with the same team for the rest of his career. We've heard a billion times this offseason that he wasn't interested in a short term high AAV deal.

was 5/215 even on the table? i saw 4/180 is rumored but I think its tough to get much more than 9/150 after turning thirty these days especially with no fielding value. lorenzo cain got 5/80 at that age with 20 war in his previous 4 years which is about what Id expect from harper on the high end.

deal honestly seems pretty good for everyone. lot of advantages to philadelphia over LA in addition to those mentioned. its a hitters ballpark to boost the stats and hes more familiar with nl east pitching for the near future. the typical 10:00 west coast games have close to no national interest.

philadelphia basically got a couple years for free at the end to spread out the average payroll hit for luxury tax reasons. yeah they arent going to be good but he is worth more than hes getting paid in the early years.

Verducci said it was 4 or 5 years but everyone else seems to be going with 4/180 was the offer from LAD.

Pretty good breakdown of deal. Phillies seem on their way to having a top 3 payroll again so you could spend the money in a lot worse ways.

Salvy with a UCL - does that always mean Tommy John?

It’s weird how much debate there is about what he should/shouldn’t do when, no matter what, he’s going to make more money than he could spend in multiple lifetimes.

I think it’s cool that he took a lower AAV so his team can spend on other players and increase their chances of winning rings. Trout strikes me as the kind of dude that would do the same.

How many lifetimes worth of wealth do you think the Phils owner has?

a wild b00t appears! <3

Was there really that much debate about it from his lifestyle perspective? Think most people just see it as an interesting choice given the baseball economy and his age.

Only thing I'd say is I would rather go to some sun belt team where the fans don't give a **** if you suck 4 years into the deal like Machado did (granted he'll probably get traded) but that is the move. If Harper sucks in Philly in 3 years then his contract will be a hot topic. East coast fans still care about baseball.

Finally caught a ST game on radio. Love hearing about the guys with no numbers on their backs come out to play.

So... based on Fangraphs and Pecota win projections, the actual betting lines have the biggest discrepancy with the D’backs. I’m seeing 74.5 as the line and 79 and 82 wins projected. I haven’t touched it yet, because I don’t think I’m a believer. They won 82 games last year and lost Goldy, Corbin, and Pollock and are projected to be as good or three wins worse?

Thoughts from our D’backs fanatics pls.

They have a good rotation, but who are they going to beat up on in the NL West? The Giants? Dodgers, Rockies, and Padres are all the same or better than last year.

I am skeptical as well, their offense could be bad.

Does anyone here play the Out of the Park baseball game? and/or do the online leagues?

I just got it cuz it was $5 a month ago and joined an online league and it's been a lot of fun. Wonder if there's enough to get a 2+2 league

Nothing really to add, other than "They won X games last year" is a poor baseline to start from.

I know for sure I want the Mets under if anyone is interested in that. Saw 85.5 earlier and locked it in on a book, but I'm sure the Harper signing has brought that down.

And yea some good consensus o/u's would be good. Most of the major books have them though albeit with different juice

85.5 is steep in the best division in baseball, but I still think they can take down the East. Compared to last season Nats and Braves will crash, Phils will soar, and Jeets. Where are you guys finding o/u?

I'm up for a h2h to win NL East bet. Odds are as follows;
Phillies +230
Braves +240
Nats +260
Mets +300

Interested in Nats v Mets? My $30 to your $26? Neither win it's a push?

So I saw this post right before I was about to head in for work

I worked all night rehearsing my speech about how I didn't think that I could commit to it now that I don't know my schedule out that far anymore. When I was in school I could be reasonably sure I'd be available on Sunday nights to reveal and update scores.

Now that I'm working, and don't know WHEN I'm working, and could be called in, I thought it would be prudent to say I just couldn't do it this year. Working nights, I'm on a weird schedule, even for internet reveals. Last year even posting a schedule I thought I could commit to, I wasn't always the most timely when it came to reveals on a deadline. I'm also planning a 2-week Vegas trip for sometime this summer.

But then the 2018 thread got bumped, and I re-read the whole thing (spoiler: Trout/Ramirez/Scherzer-bot would SHIP IT ALL... COMFORTABLY). It reminded me how much MLB joy the PEEHS contest brought ME, and EVERYBODY else.

I think the most important thing in a good PEEHS contest is timely reveals, and I definitely can't always commit to that. But if I can get some help (maybe guest reveals from volunteers when I'm unavailable?), I think we can get it off the ground again.

So I'm back in. Such baseball joy shouldn't go unrealized. I'll try to get the thread up tomorrow!

I'll give you my action on my Braves vs. whatever NL East team or teams you want, up to $100, Paypal or Venmo

State your terms

Any other league or team I'd do that just because you're an amazing guy, but I lived in ATL and my bro-in-law is a big braves fan and I like picking an NL team to follow and root for each season so I'm going with Braves this year. Don't want to bet against them. Otherwise I would

Plus I just want to fade the LOL Mets but would Degen any other team for the sake of degenning

P.S. Not gonna quote the entire PEEHS post but you're a hero for running it. I'm sure a lot of us who have a lot of fun with it wouldn't mind pm'ing you $5 or something for the all the time you put in. Not a requirement of course but I'd be happy to do so and I'm sure some others would as well

Oh I couldn't possibly take up donations for running PEEHS, though the thought is appreciated. If I'm only working, sleeping, drinking while sweating my fantasy teams, or playing deepstacked 1/2 in my free time, it would cheapen the PEEHS experience if I took up, say, 35 total dollars from like-minded kind-hearted souls for my time to get it going, lol

What I had in mind is if I know I'm working and I have a reveal coming up, I'd just pm the answers to someone who could reveal the answers and then I'd update the scores when I had time.

And I'm glad you're also on the Braves!

If anybody else wants NL East overs, unders, or division futures bets, I'll take it on or generally favoring the Braves, up to $100, within reason from what the oddsmakers say
