Arenado has the most WAR in the NL since 2015 by a fair margin iirc.

That's not how it works.

1) all players tend to hit better at home. Some hit much better at home. Check Manny Machado's splits.

2) Coors is the best hitter's park in MLB, and everyone who's not a Rockie gets to hit at Coors some of the time as a road-player, while Rockies obv don't, so you'd naturally expect their home/road splits to be even more extreme.

3) Arenado at .800 OPS in Washington would still be a near 5 WAR player with his defense, so even your hypothetical example sucks.

I fail to see why you're listing OPS+. Brooks Robinson had an OPS+ of 104, he must be really average...

Health and defense are both important.

Oh, you mean the guy who got paid the same amount for his career that Arenado will get for 4 games?

Controversial take: Arenado is good at baseball and was paid as if he were good at baseball

They'll never be able to draw big name free agent SPs there, so might as well spend it on a big bat(even if it is supposedly only for 81 games) with a big glove.

Their starting pitching is their biggest strength right now.

Inflation is a thing.

Arenado's extension is roughly equivalent to Helton's extension in the early 2000's (9 years, 141 million). He's being paid like an elite player because he is one. What's the problem?

And they are all home grown, not free agents signings.

Wondering about Pujols production this year, if any. I've been projecting him to 25 homers, 25 doubles and 90 rbis last several years, and he's basically been getting there, but don't have any confidence this year. Though those are far from good seasons in his case, it is a relentless climb up the all-time lists as you approach age 40. He's getting super elite top 10-ish in several stats. He's probably going to be the last guy I track from early career onto the all-time lists, that started with Mays and Aaron. It was always part of my life to see guys climbing toward 700 HRs, in Mays and Aaron case the magic 714. Been quite a ride.

bref has him projected at 17 doubles and and 19homers, I'd take the under on both
. I'd also take the over on him being 39.

It’s almost like the signing of a player under team control for another year and the ongoing non-signing of unrestricted free agents are two completely different things.

Scroll up and see the ****ty deals that arb players are being forced into. There is more money than ever and players are being squeezed, outside of 2 recent deals.

I dont understand this. Theres also plenty of players squeezing ridiculous money out of owners and not performing on the field. It goes both ways
