Paxton is 30 and never thrown 200 ip... not that great of a pick up

Sheffield may be better over the next 2 years of control

Like most things I haven't thought this through, but can you name 10 SPs that you would rather have for only the next 2 years?

Sale
Snell
Degrom
Scherzer
Bartolo
Severino
Syndergard
Nola

He's an elite SP.

wat
I honestly can't tell if that's a troll post or not because yes of course all of those bar Bartolo, plus most of the Indians/Stros rotations, Kershaw, Freeland etc.

Freeland maybe. The etc is the question. I'd rather have Paxton than a 36 and 37 year old Verlander. The stros rotation? Cole is the only option, McCullers is having TJ, Morton is old and probably only has a year left, Keuchel isn't better than Paxton now, nor will he be s easons from now. Kershaw may be about to fall off a cliff performance wise. Some of the Indians can go into the top 10, but the list is still barely at 10. Paxton is approximately a top 10 SP.

How on earth is Freeland vs Paxton even a question?

The Yankees don't have enough pitching to compete again this season. Also, Stanton has already begun that nasty decline. And it's going to be hard and fast. He will be in Pujols territory by 2020.

Based on what

lol at Freeland 'maybe'. That was just from top of my head, I'm sure there's many others based on numbers who have been better than Paxton recently. So we've got the seven you mentioned, Kershaw, Freeland, Klubebot, Carrasco, Bauer, Cole already. Greinke/Verlander/Morton are old but could be better for two years

Freeland is good, I know little about him and watched zero Rockies games this year .

Kluber would for sure be ahead of Paxton. Carrasco, Bauer, and Cole will be about equal with him.

Kershaw is in the having to reinvent himself phase of his career, but yes I was wrong earlier and would be ecstatic having Kershaw over Paxton.

On further thought, and I know I am contradicting myself, Yankees may have dun goofed giving up somebody who could have slot in as a #3 this season for a 1(b) SP.

The Astros will have at least 1 of Pollock, Corbin, or Goldschmidt. Probably Corbin and Goldschmidt. Dbacks will be in tear down for the foreseeable future, while still having to pick up a huge chunk of that Greinke contract. Thinks aren't looking great in wannabe SoCal.

QUOTE=txdome;54497940]****. Yankees got Paxton....[/QUOTE]

but really at the end of the day it's the same spot they were in last year. Need a SP...no clear ace in the FA market...decided not to trade for one or sing one and stood pat.

This year not so much. Corbin being the best SP FA out there said something to Cashman that's been obvious for the past two seasons...they need more SP.

No idea if Paxton will hold up but it's better than doing nothing or giving Corbin an ****ton of money.

Seriously. I'm so confused at this point I'm not sure which posts are trolling.

Depending on parameters (and some sort of injury clause, but i'll be reasonable, min 125 IP or something), I'd be willing to make any and all bets on Paxton v Freeland for 2019.

Yanks could get prime Kershaw for like 1m/yr without giving up anything and prizm would still twist himself in circles downplaying the positive impact it’d have on them.

Freeland was worse on the road too last year. Which leads me to believe the regression is coming at home. It's hard to pitch in Coors Field.

I think he's good but not a top 10 starter.

I'd be up for this assuming there's some metric that negates the Coors element

Pope,

over those 5 years I'd take Paxton. If for the next two years for a team going for a WS instead of trying to make the playoffs, I'd take b. He seems like a higher ceiling guy who could be big in the playoffs. Paxton is more consistent.

I tried to look up but didn't see a 4.6 bwar pitcher last year with 33 starts, the only pitchers near were Corky and Porcello. Kluber had a higher WAR with the same number of starts and I'd take him over Paxton. Porcello had a lower WAR and obv lol.

Eh, it is 4.6 WAR pitching value only, he adds another 0.2 with his hitting, so ends up with 4.8.
