MLB No Hitter Pool MLB No Hitter Pool

This will be a year long pool, that will reset after each no hitter thrown. Once you sign up you are responsible for your entry, and all financial obligations that come along with it, through the end of the 2017 season.

Purpose
To add some extra interest in sweating the no hitter bids.

Cost
$10 to start, and each time it resets, then additional $5 on the 1st of each month.

Payouts
The owner of the team that throws the no hitter will receive 2/3 of the current pool, with the other 1/3 going to the owner of the team that got no hit. If the no hitter is also a perfect game, each entrant will pay a $5 bonus that will be split the same way.

How it works
I'll be looking for 30 entries, 1 for each MLB team. There will be a cap of 1 entry per person, unless we're not able to fill the pool. In that case, I'll allow people to add a second entry if they wish. Once we're at 30 entries, I'll get a couple volunteers to use random.org to randomize 2 lists. One will be the list of people who joined, the other will be the list of all 30 MLB teams. The 2 lists will be matched up, and you'll have your team. After a no hitter is thrown, the lists will be randomized again, and you'll be given a new team to sweat.

Payment
Paypal/Venmo will be the main forms of payment. If you want to join but don't have either of those, let it be known, and we'll find an easy solution, even if it involves mailing me a check. Since nobody will be on the hook for very much money at any given time, I'd rather not require escrows. However, if this is an issue for the majority, I can make escrows a requirement and I'm willing to hold them, unless somebody has an objection. Otherwise, when a no hitter is thrown, I'll post a list of how much people owe, and who it needs to be sent to.

Who can join
I'd want to open it up to the regulars from the MLB thread first, then fill it with other SE regs from there, before opening it up to just anybody.

Recap
Sign up. You're on the hook for $10 as soon as it kicks off. On the first of the month, you'll be on the hook for another $5. We'll keep adding to it until a no no is tossed. Once it happens, payment instructions will be given, and the pool will reset. Once it resets, you're back on for another $10 plus $5 on the first of each month. If 2 no hitters happen to get thrown on the same day, the one that finishes first will be the one that pays. We'll redraw teams and reset the following day. I don't want to have 2 no hitters thrown within hours of each other, and have to retroactively draw names to see who the winner was.

If you want in but are worried about it costing to much over the course of the year, find someone else with the same concern and split an entry. If you sign up but don't want to finish out the season, I'll try to find someone to replace you, but it's ultimately your responsibility to make sure your entry is paid for.

I'm sure I've overlooked several "what ifs" and possibly some other obvious things. Post your questions/concerns/ideas below and we'll work through them before kicking this thing off. I'd like to have it full no later than Sunday evening so we can start on Monday, May 15.

What are the odds of somebody collecting from 29 different people after a no-no is thrown?

How is it determined who gets what team? Obviously some have more value than others

Im probably in if random.
Assuming money back if there are no no-hitters this year?

See "how it works" in OP

Definitely random. And redraw new teams after each no no. Of course, no cost if there's not any no hitters.

Why not go with 30 days instead of teams?

As long as there's no complete randoms I don't think anyone is rolling for $<$30

Do team no-hitters count? e.g. Bronson Arroyo throws 2 innings of no hit ball and gets pulled and reds bullpen throws 7 straight no-hit innings

Never considered it. Teams is just what was mentioned during the short discussion about it earlier. Would you only want a sweat 1 day a month?

This is my thinking as well. Plus, I don't necessarily want 30, 60, or 90+ small payal transactions each month.

What if you pair good teams with ****ty teams, so people have a more equal chance of being no-hit and throwing a no hitter? I'm probably the best to give an informed and objective ranking, or just use some computer projections.

I'm in if you'll have me. Just think how fun it will be to root against me binking!

Good question, and one of 2 I meant to address. Yes, that would count. What wouldn't count is anything shorter than a 9 inning game.

I'm in for whatever you decide. Lmk if there's still room after regs and se'ers

what if its an 8 inning no hitter complete game. Away team with no hitter walks in a run and loses 1-0

Yeah that's fine. Just wanting to avoid a 6 inning, rain shortened type thing.

i'd like to be in; not sure i'd really count as a regular as i don't post much (5 posts in this years thread) but i've read every single post if that means something

I'm in if allowed, am a n00b though. I'm happy to escrow (or at the very least PM ec_outlaw a personal email I can be reached on if I disappear).

My what-if - what if there's no hitter this year? Do we just roll over to the next year? Reason for asking is twofold. One is the obvious just want to know, but two is if this goes a long time some people may have disappeared or it may have got to an amount of money that may be significant to some (it's unlikely to reach $100+, but it might).

This pool is only for the 2017 season. If there's no no no, nobody will owe anything. Even if there are a couple, unless there's one on the last day of the season, whatever is in the pool at the end will get returned to everyone.(There would be at least $10 from everyone from the last time it reset)

Also, even if escrows aren't required, you're still more welcome to escrow with me if you prefer.
