Arizona has to be about even money to get no-hit this year.

Don’t worry the Dodgers manager will pull his starter after 7 innings.

Looks like Pujols even if he hits has reached the point where he can't continue much longer. He simply can't run the bases. When he scored on that triple it looked like someone who had just finished a marathon and barely made it. Amazing he didn't get hurt. Big Papi, still ripping like crazy, said something along those lines, "No, I'm done. I can't run the bases anymore." McGwire too.

Aredando is slugging 1.000 ahead of him with a 1.500ops. They can just be bash bros and say **** all to actually running the bases. Just limp around them things.

Goldschmidt sucking it up for them tho.

He was an above average hitter that year. And his .808 ops would be significantly above average now, although he would likely have failed the drug tests of today.

I just watched that Pujols clip. Never seen any pro athlete run so awkwardly. Looks like some optical illusion where he's moving his arms and legs a lot but not really going anywhere.

Dang Wainwright is 40, if he would have played 20% more games instead of being on the dl so much he'd be a one of the first ballot fellas for those fried ravioli freaks in stl.

206 innings at age 39 for Wainwright last year. It's possible we never see that again. His career is full of comebacks and grit. Wouldn't be surprised if he pitches a few more years.

I was just looking up Greinke on b-ref due to the Wainwright discussion to see if he could get to 200+ innings this year.

He has over 5.0 WAR for his hitting alone. While he is obviously an amazing hitter (for a pitcher) I think that skews his value for sure.

117 hits in 600 PAs with a .225 BA and .598 OPS. Maybe his hitting helped him stay in games later pitching, but surely most pinch hitters off the bench would have been a better value for the team than trotting him out there for his 3rd at bat because he is good for a pitcher.

Which makes his hitting WAR inflated because it is compared to other pitchers and not say a 4th OF on the bench.

My first thought was that oWAR for pitcher is obviously bs, but not having a deadspot at the bottom of the lineup is valuable and was probably worth those 5 wins. Opposing teams can't just fully anticipate the easy out from Randy Johnson and pitch to the preceding guys accordingly.

I know it doesn't mean much, but funny that there's a good chance Greinke will end up with a better career batting average than Joey Gallo

I'd give Greinke less than a 5% shot at 200 innings this year. He's pitched well or lucky in his first 2 starts, a 2.45 ERA despite only one strikeout. And yet, he's only at 11 innings. 5.5 innings per start, and one needs to average close to 7 innings per start to reach 200. So it's an uphill battle already. He's also only in his age 38 season. I'd give 2024 Scherzer (age 39) a decent shot at 200 though. Although he's been below 180 for each of the last 2 full seasons (excluding pandemic season)

Pretty amazing, only 4 MLB pitchers cleared 200 last year. Wasn't long ago that it was a bench most healthy starting pitchers reached. Kershaw and Scherzer each had 6 year streaks. Verlander did it 12 out if 13 years. Mark Buerhle had a 14 year streak on the line, and fell one out short making a bizarre extra start on 2 days rest to end the season. Greinke did it 9 times out of 12 years. Bumgarner did 6 years in a row.

I think within the next 5 years we see a season where no pitcher reaches 200.

I remember him saying one of his career goals was 10 career HR, and 10 career SB as a pitcher... did he ever get there?

He’s reinvigorated. Scored from first on a double for only the fourth time since 2015 and legged out an infield single that had a .080 expected average or something per Twitter.
