If ONLY we had historical EXAMPLES of what happens to huge dudes when they age and lose a little batspeed!

Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, Prince Fielder, Chris Davis, etc etc etc. They all aged gracefully and hit like Hall of Famers well into their 30's, right?

Oh that's not what happened? hmmmmmmmmm...

Those guys were slow first basemen. Judge can pull off playing CF. Not the same.

Judge hasn't fully proven that he can pull off being an all-star hitter multiple years in a row. Once you factor in D and Giancarlo, turning down that contract was full ******.

I agree he should have taken the offer. He's not young and hasn't always been healthy.

He has a 150 career OPS+ though and is a plus defender in RF, he's clearly one of the best players in baseball.

Gerrit Cole was too pumped up for the game. They showed a clip of him game like super pumped up and ****.

You want your ACE pitcher with ice pumping through his veins, not adrenaline.

Judge is incredibly dumb for not locking in that ever so delicious contract.

Also Stanton's homerun was a thing of beauty. 116 mph low-angle laser to the opposite field. No one else can hit a homerun like that.

Cole was super pumped up ***pre-game.

You can’t pitch well like that. He’s really not mature for a 31 year old iyam.

What a comeback by the Jays. Was at the game. Was very depressing first few innings.

Prince Fielder is a weird comp for Aaron Judge - like they are on the opposite ends of the spectrum here, in terms of their body type and development. Also, I'd think the lack of athleticism would be more of a factor here than size and Aaron Judge is a top-notch athlete. Also Pujols is reportedly 3 years older than he's listed (so he did fine in his 30's), Howard was realistically more of a platoon player at the MLB level and Chris Davis was never really that good start with.

I think this is a reasonable way to think about things:

http://baseballanalysts.com/archives...ging_curve.php

In short, bigger players age slightly worse than smaller players, but the effect seems to be more around the regression to the mean and is much smaller than, for example, bad defenders aging worse than good defenders, good hitters aging worse than bad hitters, low strikeout hitters aging worse than high strikeout hitters and high-walk hitters aging worse than low-walk hitters.
