Angels snagging Syndegard for 1 year $21mil seems like a good gamble on his health, but other than living in SoCal not sure why he chose a team certain to lose. He could have probably grabbed a spot for the same money elsewhere.

Getting to tell your grandkids you played on a team with Trout and Ohtani is pretty cool

@JustinVerlander
has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the #Astros worth $25 million, with a player option for a second year.
Hate this move. Dude is old af(my age), no way he gets a full season in.

Apparently I took Bro to win NLMVP at -130 on 9/21 it will likely pay, but not sure what I thinking at those odds.

Everyone the Angels sign turns to dust so these pitchers are definitely all going to blow their arms out before May.

I dunno how you screw up having 2 MVPs and an owner who burns cash like it’s going out of style, but they’ll figure it out I’m sure. Been cursed ever since the Poo-holes signing.

What an embarrassment these awards are. In my day, "Most Valuable" meant driving men to the plate, yet here we have Bryce Harper managing that just 84 times for the year.

And, sure, Shohei Ohtani is a nice story, but where's the leadership? Have we collectively forgotten 1985? Ricky Henderson had some gaudy stats, but Don Mattingly's stoicism is what made that Yankee team go. Voters these days are more impressed by TikTok than results.

I'm with you on Harper, but Ohtani is the most amazing thing baseball has seen since the Bambino!

Roger Clemens carried on a decade-long affair with country star Mindy McCready, a romance that began when McCready was a 15-year-old aspiring singer performing in a karaoke bar and Clemens was a 28-year-old Red Sox ace and married father of two, several sources have told the Daily News.
Talking about stories we didn't know about or remember. She committed suicide at 37. Gross, worse than Seinfeld and maybe Trump. Leave him out of the HOF even though he may be a top 3 pitcher of all time.

Spoiler:
HOF is still stupid.

BREAKING NEWS: Wander Franco signed a 12 year / $223 million contract extension with the Tampa Bay Rays.

By far going to be the biggest surprise of the offseason. Rays spending money, but they always seem to know what they are doing. Maybe flip him to the Yanks or BoSox in 4 years.

Interested to see the contract structure to figure out which will be the year they dump him

This type of deal should happen way more often than they currently do. I wonder if the problem is that the MLB front offices are too risk-averse (mostly in terms of embarrassment, giving a similarly large contract to an established star has a similar downside risk, but it's easier to justify even it doesn't work out) or that players/agents too often play hardball to try to get close to their full market value that it's not worth it. Or maybe there's a risk that some players won't live up to their full potential if their future is guaranteed? Ideally, you'd want to offer a long-term deal that buys out the arbitration years and maybe a few more, for anyone that projects to be a significant contributor in their arbitration years and free agency. And players should be able willing to take a fairly large discount for long-term financial security.

In general, I'm a fan of players getting as much as they possibly can get at any point in their careers.

Just saying there's definite downside risk for teams to do deals like this.

Definitely - if it wasn't risky for teams, it wouldn't make any sense for players to do this. I almost like it better when things don't work on for the team on small deals because I feel players that are able to get to this point deserve real compensation, even if they don't end up having a long productive major league career.

Baseball is pretty bad (worse than other sports, even though all sports are a bit unfair in this sense) in terms of how player compensation is allocated between veterans and newcomers, due to the amount of time players spent in the minors and a very long team control period - you could have an excellent career in the minors for 4 years, have a couple of great seasons in the majors and end up with career earnings less than 2M.

This is such a strange and self-owning tweet - isn't this also like his first offseason as a majority owner? Also, doesn't this happen all the time when you try to hire someone - everyone feigns interest even if they are talking to a potential employer only as a backup or leverage. Also, how are the Mets harmed by being used as leverage to get more money from competing teams?

Seems like a good deal, but his BABIP was really high last year and they will be paying him in his 33-36 aged seasons. Still like the signing and no QO makes it even better.

Semien 175/7 to the rangers

Good deal, but completely wasted if they throw all the money at story too

Owners lockout coming on Dec 1, so good deal for Semien signing before everything is no longer allowed for a while. Not sure the Rangers will ever be competitive over the length of the 7 year contract though.

Rookies/young players deserve better but the players union has no incentive to do so because everyone who is represented has mainly already gone through arbitration.
