Haha the announcers are hilarious.
Noticed a lot of them are cross ups that the catcher can't frame. How many umps rely on catchers glove and not seeing the actual pitch?
Also notice how beaten down pitchers are that most don't even react.

Brutal game. Angel Hernandez sucks out loud! But the boys better start hitting again because that's the only way they get anywhere without Giolito or Keushel starting. Their rotation just isn't good enough for post season unless the bats come alive again.

I mean I get that being an umpire is hard and I would be terrible at calling balls and strikes, but I don't really understand their leverage in negotiating.

The hardest thing (balls and strikes) can be made a lot better either via technology or by just placing the umpire who calls balls and strikes somewhere else (like at 2nd base). At this point, you just have a bunch of guys who get paid a ton of money to do an unnecessarily difficult job. Yeah I guess you can cite "tradition" or some nonsense, but we also have integrated leagues so idk.

Because baseball as a whole is still full of idiots on the field? Like we still have stupid discussions on unwritten rules every few months.

Front offices may be smart, but I would argue most players/umpires are closer to their peers from like 20 years ago than they are to the nerds upstairs.

Edit: Also, there has been no incentive to move them anyways. I think with recent ball tracking and HD cameras and the like, it's just easier to scrutinize bad calls. That didn't really exist earlier when a ball call was jsut bad and people moved on. Now this stuff is all over twitter/youtube so levels of scrutiny are way higher.

I find it funny that you think human eyeballs would be more accurate from 90 feet away. Its ridiculous.

I umpired from 13-18 years old. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to call an accurate big league game.
