That is so crazy. Baseball has so much more variance than say NBA. Do NBA games get that high? I guess I never look since they use spreads more frequently.

NBA moneylines often get into the -1xxx.

The average MLB team this year bats 38 times per game, while the average NBA team last year had 104 possessions per game.

Just based on those numbers, it's not surprising that baseball has way more variance.

You have 9 offense scoring opportunities and 9 score prevention opportunities . ABs would be better if the only outcome was a HR or an out. In basketball you score or don't on each possession. In baseball you can progress towards scoring in each AB, which is not possible in Basketball (except for a foul, I guess).
