what would they be worried about? He's basically a replacement-level pitcher for the past 5 years. if he wants to throw a million pitches let him do it i say

Eloy's bat broke on the game winning drive. He is going to keep the bat. 6 HRs in last 9 games. Im really excited to see his prime, he's going to be a monster. Just hope he stays healthy along the way.

yeah... he's been pretty bad his last 3 outings, and we know Rays pitchers have to be near perfect, because they can't hit the likes of Sabathia

I know FWar and RWar are different, but how come such a big difference for Harper?

Fangraphs has him at 1.5 and BR has him at .5?

I literally was wondering this exact thing like 2 weeks ago. I think fielding has a lot to do with it but I didn’t dig too deep

Because they are arbitrarily made up? Real stats are real but these made up ones are more of an art form.

The fact that there are different WAR values is not a problem, but rather a feature. WAR attempts to summarize a player’s on-field value and that is a very complicated question. Given how complicated baseball is, you would expect that people would arrive at different solutions to the same problem.

Positional player WAR values typically only differ dramatically when the various systems disagree about a player’s defense.

Thanks. I did read up a bit on how they are constructed differently, and I get that.

It still seems like a huge difference at this point in the season for a stat that each of the designers is hoping represents the same concept..

Interestingly, both have Trout at 4.8 War right now.

defense is incredibly difficult to quantify. I havent read up on the methodology in a while so maybe its been improved, but a lot of the zone rating stuff is based off how often historical balls to a location are hits/outs so when you have teams playing all these shifts it can throw that off some.

So almost near league bottom attendance for the first half of the season and then a few spots better in the second half. The TV addition would be big though.

This is basically a way for the Rays to eventually fully transition out of Tampa Bay.

edit: nevermind this will never happen, the article says it may be contingent on both cities building new stadiums. Why not just ship the team to Montreal, Mexico City, or Monterrey.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Yeah sure, Tampa and Montreal are both gonna build new stadia for 40 baseball games a year.
