When I look at bird 4 years he played at SF prior foot surgery and not same player afterwards unfortunately ( he was 32 like steph last year ) .

Being best free throw shooter 2 years and a killing threats all over the court with ice cold nerves under pressure .

From his second season to 1988 season ,
he finish 3 times second in mvp race ( during prime Moses malone and dr J) , Than win 3 times in a row mvp during prime magic ) and finish 3 and 2 in mvp ( magic and MJ prime) race afterwards till 1989 -> surgery .

All this at the age of steph today .

I know steph is great and all but when I see what magic and bird accomplish and compare to steph I just can’t put steph up there with the liabilities his got imho .

Steph isn't better than Magic or Bird as a player.

He is better in an all time team as he doesn't need the ball to be dangerous. He's willing to set off ball screens etc. There's no shortage of players that are good with the ball that would form his 4 team mates.

Not fair to judge it that way including pitching anyway. Bonds > Ruth offensively and defensively anyway ... if you are going to factor in how much better Ruth is than an average pitcher that seems a different subject. Bonds rules position player status. Since Ruth never had a big year both pitching and hitting, it seems bogus to use that argument to put him over Bonds.

Last year LeBron broke a streak of 17 straight years with 1500 points. Surely a record?? Now he continues one with 18 straight of 1000 or more. Also current: 17 straight seasons averaging 25 pts per game, 17 straight seasons averaging 6 rebounds or more, 17 straight seasons averaging 6 or more assists (meaning only his rookie year was he under any of these standards). Are all these streaks unmatched in history I wonder? Knee jerk reaction says obviously yes, but sometimes they fool you.


** Okay Kareem did the 1500 points for 17 straight also, and did the 6 rebounds per game for 18 straight.

** Karl Malone did the rebounds thing 19 straight seasons. Garnett 20 straight years.

** Stockton the assists for 18 straight seasons.

So LeBron has some work to do to own all these categories. I wouldn't bet against it.

I really thougth the year Kareem broke his hand on Benson's jaw he had missed much more of the season, and would be way below 1500 points that year. Not so. I remember losing some kind of bet on the year of this fight. Missed it huge in the year, thinking it was early 70's, even though I knew Benson came out after the '77 season so it was a brain fart. I think I confused it in my head time wise with the Luke Witte brawl from my boyhood. These were two of the most notorious hoops brawls of the era, other than the Tomjanovich one. Lost the bet decades after the fact, which I was something like 105-3 on these trivia prop bets, simply because I wouldn't bet unless I knew, or thought I knew, and many are just full of crap and bet any impression they have.

Nope, just 11. No Shaq on purpose. Free throws, out of shape, stupid, in eras when rules aren't favoring him unfairly he would be more limited. Kobe and Phil made a winner out of him, imo.

Had a lot of trouble between Duncan, Karl Malone, Kevin Durant. I couldn't leave Durant off with good conscience but could (barely) leave Malone and Duncan off. Duncan would be #12 I think. When choosing a photo finish, like for me with Duncan and Malone, spearheading titles does matter. When its not a photo, as you can see with Russell not on, titles doesn't overrule higher levels of greatness.

He's not in my top handful of centers, and it isn't close enough for titles to carry the day. He definitely was incredible but the talent gap between him and others is too much, esp since he probably isn't in the top 500 offensive players in history. You just can't make that up in the GOAT debates. KC Jones has 10 titles it doesn't put him on GOAT team.

And individual offense is more important that individual defense, I think. Potential key point. One offensive star can score the offensive possession singlehandedly, one defensive star cannot stop the defensive possession singlehandedly.

I would take Russell over Shaq every day of the week. Shaq has too many profound weaknesses: Free throws, stupid, out of shape, in eras when they don't allow football on the hardwood would cut into his effectiveness.

I love Durant getting votes for #1 and 2. Hadn't seen much of that before.
