2+2 hot take 3 years from now -- today:

"AD was never really that good; he only went to the playoffs a couple times before LeBron"

So Lebron's exploits with super-teams in a weak conference coupled with the always-impactful ball-dominator role have inflated his impact and "carrying" ability.. The reality is that Lebron only made the playoffs with high seeds/good teams his entire career, and missed the playoffs 3 times with lottery casts (teams that were lottery the prior year) in 04', 05', and 19'.. by failing to carry lottery casts to low seeds, he avoided underdog 1st round matchups that would've sent him home early.. he infact missed the playoffs with the East all-star center in 05', and needed to add the COY and a 22/5/5 all-defender to make it in 06' (as a high seed).. by comparison, pippen wasn't capable of 22/5/5 and all-defense until 1992, while Khris Middleton will never have that 2-way capability.
.
ppl really are this stupid!

The debate for the best American born player of all time is going to rage on for a long time. Not a big fan of the subjectivity of comparing eras but I guess it is interesting.

Now who has the most rings as the best player in the modern era/3-pointer basketball (since 1980)??

MJ has 6 and 2nd place has 3 - so mj has twice as many "best player" rings as anyone else in the modern era, while leading in ppg and efficiency rating.. that's the best goat argument that anyone can make

how did MJ have far better team offenses despite far less offensive help?

obviously, his skillset allows better teamwork and brand of ball than Lebron's, so he didn't need as much supporting talent (if everyone on a team was a worse scorer than Horace grant, the team would win 0 games, whereas Love and Bosh won 40+ as the #1 option)

better brand/teamwork = better team ceilings/better teams = better championship odds, aka better player..

ultimately, team ceiling is a bigger factor affecting championship odds than a good on-off, which all the top ball-dominators have

What's better:

LEBRON.... 9 conference Finals wins... 3 Finals wins
JORDAN'... 6 conference Finals wins... 6 Finals wins

Obviously, 3 more Finals wins > 3 more conference finals wins
I define modern era as post 97 onwards. Kobe goat obv. Tough break for MJ, but thems the eras.

btw - before the 3-point line, good team offense/ortgs was impossible, which allowed a 1-way player like Russell to win the most.. but since the inception of the 3-point line, all 40 MVP's have been dominant offensive players, so we know that Russell wouldn't be an MVP-caliber player today.. therefore, MJ's 6 rings is by far the goat modern accomplishment - that's twice as many "best player" rings as anyone else in the modern era/3-pointer basketball
