When LeBron's given pretty much the exact same performance against the most elite athletes from anywhere across the globe that MJ gave against sloppy guys who didn't know move their feet or jump and didn't know what they were doing on defense or even have the ability to play decent defense under the laws of the game, obviously what LeBron's done is more impressive.

Seriously, MJ would have been fine. Team defense has improved. I'm not even going to argue that individual defenders aren't better. But, you don't think he goes okay against spread floors (which he didn't have in his day), not many big guys to stop him at the basket, and that no one can hand-check him. Imagine it was Michael Jordan running at you James Harden style.
