I think they were competitive only for the first couple weeks or so.

Or pocket money gained in revenue sharing that is supposed to be to allow small market teams to remain competitive.

I heard he's worth twice the marlin's highest player's yearly salary or something, like $20 million vs. 10 or something (dunno was on talk radio)

Even if attendance goes down 40% they only lose 30 ish million. Having a super low payroll and pocketing the revenue sharing cash is the best way to go if your goal is to make the most $ possible. It pays to be in the good old boys club with Selig.

I'm shocked that David Samson is a huge douche. I thought maybe my impression of him from 5 minutes on Showtime was wrong.

Prescient! Nothing would please me more than for someone like Jeter to wind up with the team and then move it to Omaha and leave the idiots on the hook for the stadium. I'd like to think maybe FINALLY this would wake people up and convince them not to buy stadiums for billionaires anymore but it totally won't.
