Hollinger's thingamajig says 20%. I was thinking more like 15. Chris Quinn can probably work some miracles, though.

Hollinger's thing is ridiculous. It has 5 teams at 100% already and 8 more teams above 94% after like 21 games.

they can beat the spurs, celtics, and mavs too

i think their new look smallball caught the warrs/suns offguard, i wouldnt expect them to beat the suns that way ever again

still though, with riley/wade i like their chances in the east, the only real locks to make the playoffs are Boston/Detroit/Orlando

Well, it's got sample size issues for sure. He'll admit as much. He never shies from the fault's in his work.

However, in the NBA, on a year-to-year base, I'm guessing a decent fan can get 12 of the 16 teams with 85% accuracy before a game is even played. So a statistical analysis after 20 games that has 13 teams as almost locks probably ain't too far off.

since i can see the future ill go ahead and narrow it down to 9 teams in each conf for you guys, in no order:

rockets
jazz
nuggs
warrs
lakers
hornets

east:

celts
raptors
nets
pistons
cavs
bulls
magic
wizards
heat

there are like 3 teams over 500 in the East, the Heat's chances of making the playoffs are not less that bad imho.

Milluwakee has no chance?
Bobcats have no chance?
Hawks have no chance?
Pacers have no chance?

the only two teams that are definately not gonna make it in my opinion are the knicks and the sixers...everyone else has atleast 8th seed potential

I'll go out on a limb and say Charlotte has no chance.

One of the things making it hopeful for Miami is NJ and Chicago currently suck, too.

They all have a chance obv other than probably the Bobcats. I just would take Miami, NJ, and Chicago collectively over Atlanta, Indiana and Milwaukee even though the latter 3 currently have better records.

Art Dogg,
If those teams have a shot, you should have included them in your original post. Basically the reason why you think the heat have such a good shot, is because you are discounting teams like milluwakee...big mistake

agreed online, just the west was so easy to narrow down to 9 that I felt I had to do the same in the easy

so do you still think they have a ridiculous 70% chance to make the playoffs?

It's really hard for me to put a percentage on it right now, there are just too many teams fighting for too many spots. I just think they will make it, so maybe that means it's over 50% in my mind. All the teams you mentioned can and have fallen off the map before. Even the Wiz can if Arenas never gets back. With all that has gone bad for the Heat, they are still only 3.5 out of the 8 spot. Miami has the leadership and coaching to keep it together for a full season and put together a run. And it's not like they have no players, Jwill and Haslem are decent complimentary players and some of their youngins have stepped in and played well. Anyway I like Miami, NJ and Chic over the teams you mentioned because they have a stable core. Anyone can play well in stretches, not anyone can put an entire season together.

how is i just think they will make it as part of an argument,

anyway, thremp... were you serious about it being way less than 30%?
