no? he had a category 1 col to climb on his own while Bernal was going for a stage win & the favorites were trying to not lose too much time on him, he'd have easily lost 2+ min on Bernal/Thomas/Kruiswijk

yeah that attack group could have caught bernal, or bernal could have won another minute plus. we got robbed of a great finish.

looking at the footage, there is nothing they could do though. the road is completely flooded. the only thing they could have done was pick a different stop time.

He (allaphilipe) looked pretty pissed it was stopped there. The British commentators seemed to think he had a chance to catch up to the group in front on the descent.

He was probably going to lose a bunch of time on the final cat 1 with no downhill finish to save him. This probably didn’t hurt him much, if any. And everyone saves a bit more of their legs for tomorrow.

People are going to have to attack hard to catch Bernal. Most would be happy on the podium so maybe the 2 of 5 off of it will instigate some action. I’m not all that optimistic though

I still doubt Alaphilippe can hold onto the podium, but obviously the chance is higher now than 3 hours ago.
