Really bummed about Wout Van Aert hooking that horn errrr catching that barrier. He was really looking to put together a great first Tour and that unforced error was sickening.

Hope he’s OK, apparently he suffered a gash to his leg that was so deep it freaked him out and they had to calm him down. Plus that groin stretch looked like a popped wishbone.

I don’t remember a more colossal TdF disappointment than Quintana. Always overhyped, never willing or able to make a winning move.

Imagine the turmoil if a non-frenchman was doing what Allaphilippe is doing

I may just have forgotten, but I don't remember much more outrage last year, when Thomas was doing the same.

What a stage, this might be the most (only) exciting tour in years!

I'm talking about it in the Syndicate thread which some of you probably also are in and read, but surely the odds on Thomas went way too long. He is still second place behind a guy that hasn't proven he can hang every day in the mountains. I feel like he should be around 3.0-3.5 range at worst. How do you guys see the GC now?

I'd have it like

Thomas/Ala near equal
Bernal
Stevie K
Pinot
Buchmann
Who cares after that really

Very hard to say wrt Thomas. Looked the strongest on 6th stage, didn't look strong today. And today isnt as hard as some of the next stages. Also the weather will be exceptionally hot the next couple of days iirc (but cold in the alps) which also plays a role.

I lost some faith in G today, this is too early for him to begin to crack, and their team doesn't seem as strong as usually either. That said, historically, except last year, GT has usually had an off day, it's not impossible that he's gonna be the strongest again in the coming mountains.

Alaphilippe is impossible to judge imo, I still dont think he can avoid having a single off day, but he's gotta be a top favorite anyways.

Pinot has looked the strongest out of everyone imo and he also has a very strong team around him. But he is more than 3 mins down so it requires Alaphilippe to crack.

I can't really imagine anyone other than those 3 win it. It's very close for all three, Alaphilippe is a minor favorite for me because of how much time he has, but it's super close.

Edit: odds are just generally extremely volatile in cycling imo. But yeah I agree it's a big drop in the odds, he's still second and one semi bad day doesn't mean he's out of it. But that's also because the comparative odds for Alaphilippe to win went up significantly after he survived today.

I think Alaphilippe, Thomas, Kruijswijk, Bernal and Pinot can all win it at this point. Would love to include Buchmann but I can't see it happening.

Yeah I mostly agree Derwi, that is the realistic list.

Btw - haven’t seen you around in ages. Good to see you in the thread.

I dunno who’s responsible for strategy for movistar but that was impressively stupid.

Great ride by the domestique for Pinot. He and the two Jumbo riders so impressive to blow off so many big names.

Thomas cracks again like that and he’ll be riding in support.

I read Valverde said Quintana never said he didn't have the legs. I don't see why he would lie about that so lolnairo. In his defense, may have had to do with low blood sugar coming out of nowhere and that's why he took a coke from random fan, because it makes no sense that he wouldn't just give a "Hola hombres mi leggos es muy mal" on the radio if he knew what was coming.

Bernal looked really good today, he would have attacked Ala except he couldn't bc of Thomas.

That is where Ala is at a huge advantage, If Bernal is indeed the best rider in the race it might be too late and he might be too far behind by the time team Ineos realizes it.
