At a minimum, he was irresponsible, naive, stupid, and dishonest during and after any "hoax". He either actively spread or allowed to be spread tons of false or misleading information without taking any steps to correct any of it. Being "catfished" does almost nothing to explain how Te'o ran with the whole story as it became a national media occurrence.
