Agreed. But playing the "I was hoaxed card" with a PR team and agency paying people to 'fess up and say Te'o had nothing to do with it works. The problem is Te'o unknown value to an agency. High-risk, minimal reward.

At this point, his future professional representation is in his ear and you may be right.
Keep it ambiguous and be a Rorshach test. He's so beloved and sympathetic that those who feel that way will say he was duped; those more cynical will say he made it up; and those who think he's not a bad guy but knew she didn't exist will say there's a good reason for all of this (gay) and understand why he won't admit it because of what it would do for his career and relationship with his family.
