Just checking the Notre Dame boards, the vast majority of their fans seem to know he was in on it, in fact several Notre Dame players are coming out saying Te'o lied and stuff. Basically they said he lied but blame the media for blowing it up bigger, etc.

Te'o and ND really has taken a ridiculous embarassing situation and make it orders of magnitude worse.

He should have just immediately gone full Jimmy Swaggart and begged crying forgiveness and claimed he lied, panicked, was scared, all that jazz. He's gonna have to do that eventually.

ND will then look really stupid for standing up for him so hard. I mean, I know they don't want to pile on, but they don't have to, they should just be non-commital "We are seeking to find the facts, blah blah blah"

If they really did hire a top investigation firm and vetted the whole thing and are still standing behind him, there has to be SOME reason.

i also like how the hoax story doesn't really add up based on the reactions of Te'o & ND.

like they've known about this for weeks, but have nothing to say regarding that angle. seems like Tuiasosopo would have to be involved if he was legitimately duped, but have they said anything about that? are they taking any legal recourse, or doing anything? nah he's good, just gettin' ready for the draft, etc. move it along, nothing to see here...

So this might be the truth:

1. Te'o decided to have a fake girlfriend (maybe it started as a joke to avoid some sloots or something and he got carried away with it)
2. Like lies tend to do, it grew and grew, and as his fame grew and grew it became a part of his story
3. He panicked, was now the #2 Heisman vote getter of the year on the LOLBCS #1 ranked team, and this gf was now going to have to start meeting people.
4. He decided the time was up and he would kill her off, spin it to get publicity, hope it all died down and he looked like the second coming.
