If Manti is the victim of a hoax, than he is also an opportunistic douchebag who leveraged a relationship with a girl who he has only contacted via text and social media through the Mainstream Media.

This absolutely.

I doubt this was his main goal, though. I think his main goal was just to be able to believe he had some super special relationship with some super special girl and tell himself that. The kind of guy who puts a girl on a massive pedestal and gets off on worshipping her even if it's some completely bogus relationship and he doesn't know anything about her. It's all fantasyland and he intentionally built it way, way up, and yes compulsively lied about it to tell the story.

But I bet it's true that it started as a hoax and he legitimately thought he was in a relationship with a real person.

Until he actually shows proof of that nature, he's guilty IMO.

Can you imagine if this lying toolbag was subjected to a real interrogation, deposition style?

The story unravels with level one logic. How did he find out that she died? Why didn't he go to the funeral? Why did his dad say he met her? Why is the most popular football player at Notre Dame going online to find girls? When exactly did these 8 hour phone conversations occur? Can we see the phone records? Etc.

Blows my mind that they really think they can trot out this BS and have the story go away. This is going to go on for weeks and months, and only get worse.

I think there's lots of different things I can buy into in regards to Teo actually being innocent here. The problem is that all of them revolve around a girl spending years of her life on the phone with him just to play a joke. How is that even possible? She didn't even try to get money or anything.
