I think we may have finally found motive for this whole shenanigan. This isn't mind blowing information, but certainly clears things up about why you may want to carry on a hoax with a star college football player that is going to the NFL.

I can't say where i'm getting this information from, but Te'o got paid 500K to do the Katie Couric interview. That same person believes RT will get anywhere from 500K to 1 mill for the Dr. Phil interview. While this may not explain everything, it's starting to make sense as to why RT wants the entire story to himself. And, certainly explains why the girl Tino Tuiasosopo would now want her relatives to out her, so she can be involved in this as well.

If this RT kid masterminded this thing, then here is the payoff. Everyone has been looking for motivation about why the hell you would invest all this time and effort in doing something like this, I think we have that answer now.

Uh, no. This started well before Te'o was slotted to be a first round pick. It started well before ND was in the NC chase that got him the press that made this worth anything more than a Deadspin blog. He's done it with people far less famous than Te'o(totally random people).

It also makes no sense for Te'o to be behind this sort of thing since the amount of money he supposedly got paid to do the interview may very well be less than the amount he loses by sliding in the draft.

The guy sounds like a Rhodes scholar in his interviews so I agree with you.

Well I agree with this in part. This started well before Te'o got launched as a Heisman candidate and possibly a 1st round pick... I'll agree with that. But, he wasn't a nobody, he was an NFL prospect at the time and the defensive captain of a Notre Dame football team that gets a ton of exposure. If we are talking the winter off season of 2012 everyone knew he was going pro, with or without this story. The problem is there is no accurate timeline of when contact occurred, and if we could even trust the information provided.

I'm definitely not arguing Te'o being behind this from the start. Idk where you got that from. I was merely pointing out that he is now capitalizing on the situation. That seems to be what all this jockeying for interviews is, and why RT would want all the blame now.
