yeah i found these tweets from Dec. 4th yesterday from the Jay R guy, which would have come before Te'o was supposedly contacted again by "Lennay" on the 6th.

he seems to know what's going on somehow, but is he behind it? idk, if he is he's busted and panicking, but not sure if it feels that way. (tweet #2 is clearly about Ronaiah btw)

watch this whole thing get swept under the rug with no one involved actually talking about it. not Manti, not Ronaiah, not these ppl, always just cousins, uncles, or whoever talking 2nd hand. what's the scene out in California, is the media really all over these ppl to the point where they're gonna have to talk before it goes away?

Doubt it, his agent is Prince Ehigha Mohammed Obafemi Adebayo who has vowed to make him a lot of money after investing his signing bonus.

Well it's hard to concentrate on motive when there is no logical motive for any of the other possibilities either.

Can't act like one side of this makes sense when every angle makes little sense.

ESPN article is interesting i guess but T'eo being 100% the victim is hahaohwow. He got a call December 6th about it being a prank. The Heisman ceremony was December 8th and he was still playing the dead gf card.

Ya that's a good point. The thing that 2p2 has trouble with is the fact people don't always act rationally. It's true that, if correct, playing a prank for years with no real end game isn't rational.

Disagree though about there being no logical motive for all the possibilities though. From the cynics perspective, te'o and possibly notre dame have something to gain through notoriety and the possibility of gaining heisman votes. Obviously it may be irrational to think one could get away with this, if it were contrived, or that it would possibly make a huge difference, but there is at least some motive there.

Anyway, obv this whole situation is messed up and i haven't made a final conclusion yet, but the cynic in me really hasn't been dispelled yet, if it ever will be.

Agree that it's looking more and more like Te'o is just a dope who got caught in a hoax, and knowingly used the hoax's alternate reality for his own personal gain.

Stealing from Simmons column but Te'o pretending he did this because he is gay, and then living the rest of his life as a gay icon (while being straight) seems like the only conclusion to this story that makes sense.

yeah this thing is so weird bc unless Manti was shipping "Lennay" money, gifts, etc i don't see how it's possible for him to be 100% innocent, or where the motive is for a bunch of people to carry this on for so long and invest all this time. this seems extremely unlikely, and almost requires them knowing that Manti is stupid enough to fall for it completely before they start.

but at the same time, i don't really see the motive to Manti to be in on it from the beginning, even with the gay angle it's pretty damn stupid, as many have explained. there are much easier and better ways to cover that up. same with the "he did it for publicity bc he's a sociopath" angle.

i suppose it could be any of these in a "it started with something that was supposed to be minor, but spiraled out of control" kind of way. the timing is weird though. if he was being hoaxed, why did they kill her off when his grandmother died in September, then fess up in December for no reason?

these stories aren't really making sense for me. his actions after "Lennay" died (not going to the funeral, etc) suggest that he knew then she was fake. it's also interesting how most of the backstory and confirmation about her was done through his dad. without him coincidentally choosing to be "colourful" (aka completely talking out of his ass about stuff he was no idea about, is a best case scenario) this whole thing falls apart a long time ago when ppl are asking about this girl, why she's never around, does she exist, etc.

imo if he did get catfished, the jig has been up for a long time now.

and then getting found out at some point. would really send this story into the stratosphere as an all-timer.

based on what's come out, it seems pretty crazy to think he actually was in on it from the beginning.

I mean if Te'o was actually duped it sounds like it was probably for a grand total of 15 minutes.

I highly doubt that the extent to which he was duped exceeds the extent to which he lied his ****ing ass off.

the question is when Te'o realized. The most pro-Te'o side could argue he never knew until Dec 6th, he just was a scumbag who exploited her fake death and lied a bunch. The most anti-Te'o side will probably concede it doesn't make sense that he started the hoax, but that he likely knew early on and did not consider Lennay to be his gf or possibly even a real person.

Basically, is he super stupid (pro-Te'o) or really cynical/scammy (anti-Te'o)

If Te'o is telling the truth, they gotta talk to the chick who played the gf. She talked to him every night for weeks. At some point she becomes the main person even if it was originally 'sopo's idea. Whatever bs she was feeding Te'o, he was buying it.

At first I thought he had to be in on it, but I guess it's possible he was duped. So we either have Manti Soze entering the NFL, or the biggest moron walking the face of the earth. Either way, I'm stocking up on a good year's supply of popcorn.

For those of you who think he had no motive to be a part of this lie, isn't it motive enough that this story was the catalyst for him winning every award under the sun. The man was 57th in the country in total tackles per game and had 7 interceptions (a few a product of him running good). Yes he was on an undefeated team. Have there not been other great defensive players on undefeated teams in the past? Manti Te'o is a very good football player, yet extremely undeserving of the maxwell award and a second place finish in the Heisman race. The media adored this guy and ESPN pushed for this man to be a household name. Why? Well this story of two loved ones dying was a perfect way to have a country endear to Manti. Manti knew exactly what he was doing and it worked to a "T".
