Ya that's a good point. The thing that 2p2 has trouble with is the fact people don't always act rationally. It's true that, if correct, playing a prank for years with no real end game isn't rational.
Disagree though about there being no logical motive for all the possibilities though. From the cynics perspective, te'o and possibly notre dame have something to gain through notoriety and the possibility of gaining heisman votes. Obviously it may be irrational to think one could get away with this, if it were contrived, or that it would possibly make a huge difference, but there is at least some motive there.
Anyway, obv this whole situation is messed up and i haven't made a final conclusion yet, but the cynic in me really hasn't been dispelled yet, if it ever will be.
