And then there was the "I miss you too snuggle bunny" tweet reply to Manti tweet from 71 days ago, that this acct had posted like 5 hrs ago which has since been deleted...presumably before the acct was closed then reopened. Right around that time was when Sportscenter had announced it was believed Tuasasoppo was behind the LennayKay acct. Crazy whatever the case may be.

I might have gone with Brady. He is 35, after all, and has a family. Honestly, though, when I first saw the Te'o headline I was a lot less surprised than I feel like I should have been.

The Modern Seinfeld account tweeted something like this.

Nothing is more entertaining than sports and it's by far the best reality TV.

Besides this Te'o story here are recent story lines:

Was rooting for the PoisonedPaneraIcedTeaSoICan'tTalk approach just to pile on the pure quantity of fake being provided.

This, the Lance Armstrong stuff, and the Penn State stuff sort of raise the issue of how immune the sports world is to misleading, scandalous information.

It seems that there is less incentive for media to investigate certain stories or scandals, no matter how many guns might sit around smoking or even firing bullets in your face. Jerry Sandusky was investigated in 1998 and left the program under mysterious circumstances, yet it took 14 years for anyone to find out about what he had done. There was mounds of evidence and reports by witnesses of Lance Armstrong doping and then ****ting all over the lives of those who dared to tell the truth about him; yet up until a few years ago the entire world would swear that he was clean.

Clearly, the inspirational/motivational/heartwarming story sells more in sports than it does in, say, politics or any other category of news. The media as a whole will look for any excuse to publicize any story that it thinks the public will find interesting or positive, glorifying the athletes, while diminishing the more negative stories.

Now clearly this isn't universal as the smaller, more fringe media outlets will look for anything just to get hits and get a story out there. Which is why Deadspin is awesome. The girl that broke the Sandusky scandal was a 22 year old reporter trying to come up with anything to get herself out there, and she ended up securing herself a career out of the story. And I'd say that as a whole, sports media is becoming more comprehensive and more nonsensical stories/events are being researched to find out the truth. Major media outlets are increasingly covering these sorts of negative scandals. But still...the fact that not a single reporter tried talking to Lennay's family for a story or bothered to dig any deeper is insane. But hey, as long as Rick Reilly gets to record a hack piece with some cheesy heartstring-pulling music in the background, that's all that matters I guess
