The very first thing our local Nebraska media (which is probably the most nazi college football media in the country, seriously) said on the radio was that one of the first things they would have done was get a statement from the girl's parents, get to know the girl, get a quote, whatever. Gene Wojciechowski suggested the first time he was questioned on SC about 20 min ago that he asked for the family's contact info, and for photos of her, but was told by Te'o that the family wants to be left alone and no pics provided. So he implies he tried, at least a little.

When Manti was at his grandma's funeral, I assume there was media there getting film and pics and doing feel good pieces right? (I haven't watched news/espn in over a year outside of actual games, until today I hadn't heard of this grandma,gf death story)

It really didn't occur to anyone "hey, let's go get us some b roll of this other funeral that would make for a sweet story"

or was his attendance of the funeral not a thing? I'm just going by the t-rob grandmother funeral last year, that footage was all over ESPN they couldnt get enough of it

Had a mental health professional call in to a local radio show saying that his first impression was that Manti had some extreme narcissism (obviously) and fabricated this gf right when his grandmother died in order to sort of compound the sympathy that he would get from others. Not sure whether this fits with the story though; haven't checked the dates of things

Once again being butthurt that Deadspin is 10x the media outlet that they are and that they weren't first to report the story. They're probably in some corporate meeting room trying to come up with a way to take credit for the story as we speak.
