Also played by 3 players, our next incorrect is the San Diego Padres. Well, the NL West was looking like a fun, 3-team race for most of the first half of the season. Since the All Star Break, however, the Fathers have faded precipitously, as their lack of depth in the rotation has been exposed. They're only 3.5 back of the 2nd Wild Card, but have 3 teams ahead of them to pass so it doesn't look good.

The New York Mets got a lot of helium over the offseason in anticipation of this year, but they've proven that when they're without deGrom, it's the same old Mets. I'll refrain from gloating too much about their many very public dysfunctions. As it is now, they're 7 back for the Wild Card, and 5.5 back in the NL East.

The remaining incorrects are would-be ace hunters. The Los Angeles Angels have been without the services of their 3-time MVP for most of the season, so they decided to grow their own new MVP. Anthony Rendon is hitting .240/.329/.382, with 6 home runs this year... so that's not gonna cut it. At least they ripped the band-aid and DFA'd Pujols, who is still surprisingly useful vs. LHP. The Angels are 16 back in their division, and 5 games below .500.

Our next most popular answer was played by 4 contestants, including yours truly. My Atlanta Braves are currently atop the NL East, and it's pretty much the only compelling division race that's left, other than the two juggernauts atop the NL West. But both of them are making the playoffs one way or another, and it's unlikely that the 2nd place East team makes the Wild Card. The Braves are 2 games up on the Phillies, whom we play the 2nd-to-last series of the season. Hopefully we can build up a cushion before then so it doesn't come down to that.
