Hello again, baseball fans! Well, 2020 was a hell of a year, and to accommodate Covid, we took a hiatus from PEEHS. But we've got 162 games scheduled for 2021, so 2+2's 5th annual MLB PEEHS contest is BACK, and better than ever!
Our winner in 2019 was hair loss at 19_, and SeeTheMirage shipped the sidebet! Congrats to the podium:
1st: hair loss at 19_
2nd: SeeTheMirage
3rd: Vilica
2019's thread can be found
here.
2019's thread got 46 entries, I think we can get to 60 this year!
I've never played PEEHS before, what is it?
PEEHS is basically a fun, free baseball futures contest. All you have to do is fill out answers to the 25 questions before the season starts, and then you get to sit back and sweat the reveals as the season goes along.
For every question, your answer will be either correct, or incorrect. If your answer is CORRECT, then your score for that question is the # of players who chose that answer.
If your answer is INCORRECT, then your score will be the most popular answer (the SHEEP answer), plus the number of different correct answers submitted.
We're carrying over the SHEEP penalty rule, which means that if the most popular answer is also INcorrect, their pickers' score will be based off the more painful incorrect, while other incorrects' scores will be based off the most popular CORRECT answer. If that's confusing, see last year's thread for examples.
Lowest score wins.
So the objective of the game is to be CORRECT in all your answers, and also be among the fewest participants that SELECT your correct answer.
How do I enter?
All you have to do is send me a single-spaced, non-numbered PM with your answers to the 25 questions before the season starts April 1st.
Please correctly spell first and last names for individual players, and just use team mascots for team questions.
Please refer to the team in Oakland as the Athletics (not A's) and the team in Baltimore as the Orioles (not O's.) If you answer "New York" or "Chicago" as a team, then you're going in the club.
Since we seem to go through this every year...
Not spaced (don't do this):
Astros Billy Hamilton Joey Votto Mike Trout...
Single Spaced
(do this one)
Astros
Billy Hamilton
Joey Votto
Mike Trout
...
Double-spaced (don't do this)
Astros
Billy Hamilton
Joey Votto
Mike Trout
...
Once again, the previous rule "can only use the same player twice" has been removed. So if you want to answer a certain, unnamed, ichthyoid Angels center fielder for all the player questions, be my guest.
How can I gamble on this?
The contest is of course free to play and free to enter, but there will probably be an optional side bet contest like last year, if you want some money on it. In 2019 the entry was $10, we got 12 runners, and our winners SeeTheMirage and LFC_USA were promptly and honorably paid out by our escrow, that_pope.
Obviously, I can't enter the side bet, but I'll keep track of the separate sidebet leaderboard. If you enter the sidebet, you are deferring to me being sole judge, jury, and executioner for "official" scores and any scoring disputes. I also offer no warranty on whomever y'all decide will hold the money. Also insert <standard 2p2 disclaimer about gambling with strangers on the internet.>
New for 2021!
Last time, the "5 starting pitcher's Wins" question went 3 correct/43 incorrect. Several "chalk-y" answers bubbled with 4 wins. So we're lowering the threshold to 4 wins.
...Since we all know that Starting Pitcher Wins are the most important (and predictive) stat for Starting Pitcher success.
We're also tweaking the Quality Starts question from 20 to 18, because starting pitchers are all gigantic babies that need to be coddled.
On to the questions!
