I got 2nd in this last year, and will compete for last this year, so those two things may not correlate.

i know...and i feel ashamed.

i can't point to the exact moment when my interest in baseball went away. i played from 2nd grade through 2 years in college. i was a catcher and Johnny Bench was my idol because he grew up 15 miles away from where i did. i was watching live when Reggie became Mr. October. i was also watching live when Dave Parker, Willie Stargell, Kent Tekulve and numerous others became Family. a few years later Fernando pitched and Dusty, Lopes, Cey, Garvey, Guerrero, and Scioscia were on the team. without documenting every year i was enthralled by the speed of the royals and cardinals, ozzie's glove and flips, rickie henderson's swagger (with vince coleman trying to be rickie)

the '86 mets were my team. i could write a thesis on every player and their contribution to that season....but i won't.

i suffered through the strikes and was also caught up by the McGwire/Sosa chase in '98. the Dave Niehaus call of Edgar's double to score Junior still gives me chills every time i hear it. living in the NW i obviously followed the '01 Mariners amazing season (until it wasn't)

i can't point to a specific event or time when my interest went away. it apparently tapered off over the course of several years and here i am. i'm not proud of it.

I finished dead last last season and I can confirm that it is an extremely humbling/painful experience.

Will be humbling/painful when a proper English chap, who just started watching the game and is against beanballs, beats me. Gramuel, I am guessing you are friends with the guy in OOT posting about billiards. How is his pool playing ability?

I can’t imagine my interest in baseball ever going away. I miiiiiight like poker more, but I’m not entirely sure about that.

For this question, we had 31 correct answers, and 26 incorrect answers.

We'll start by reviewing the incorrects first.

Our most popular incorrect answer was played by 11 contestants, and activates the Wrong SHEEP penalty. Corey Knebel was lights out last year, but this year spent some time on the DL, and he only has 14 saves.

Our next most popular incorrect, played by 7 people, is Ken Giles, who was just traded to the Blue Jays after clearly needing a change of scenery. He had a rough first half, highlighted by hitting himself in the face, and telling his manager to **** off one time he got yanked. Anyway, he has 12 saves.

Our next most popular incorrects are a pair of would-be 2-pointers. Alex Colome was cruising right along for the Rays, but a midseason trade to the team with the majors' most prolific closer has torpedoed his value. He has 12 saves on the year.

Also played by 2 people, our next incorrect is noted domestic abuser Roberto Osuna. He has missed a lot of time after being suspended, and was traded to the Astros today as another guy who probably needed a change of scenery. He has 9 saves on the season.

Now we're down to the would-be ace hunters. Archie Bradley seems to be more valuable in a high leverage, multi-inning role than as a true closer, as he has 3 saves on the season.

Our next incorrect is Arodys Vizcaino, who is currently on his 2nd DL stint of this season. Hopefully he'll be back soon, as the Braves bullpen definitely needs more healthy bodies with live arms. Arodys has 15 saves on the year.

Our next incorrect is Hector Neris, who was so bad for the Phillies that he got sent down to AAA. Before that happened, he had amassed 10 saves for the Phils, to go with an ERA a shade under 7.00 and a 1.5 WHIP.

Our final incorrect, best I can tell, is not a player that's in the Major Leagues. There is nobody named "Zach Davis" in MLB or AAA this year. Maybe he meant Zach Davies, a starter for Milwaukee? This is why I tell people to correctly spell first and last names on their entry.
Anyway, that guy has zero saves also.

Here are the 6 unplayed correct answers:

Wade Davis, 30 saves
Blake Treinen, 27
Keone Kela, 24
Fernando Rodney, 22
Sean Doolittle, 22
Bud Norris, 20

The SHEEP answer for this question was played by 8 people. Kenley Jansen started slow, but has since turned it around as the steady, consistently good closer that he is. He has 30 saves on the season.

Our next most popular correct was played by 6 people. Also incredibly consistent, my boy Craig Kimbrel has the lowest ERA (1.83) in MLB history, including deadball, among pitchers with 500 or more IP. At 30 years old, he has 324 saves, which is more than halfway to 600. This season is no different, as he's 2nd in MLB with 33 saves.

Our next corrects are a trio of 2-pointers. Brandon Morrow has missed some time to the DL this season, which isn't new for him, but saving 22 games is a new role for him, to which he's taken with aplomb.
