Free your mind, bro. The Steelers haven't made the playoffs since the 3:16 game. They haven't even had a winning season since the 3:16 game. In 2012, a heartbreaking loss in overtime to the Cowboys enabled the rival Ravens to win the division and eventually the Super Bowl. In 2013, Steelers fans have to witness the even-more-unfathomable: after a nearly perfect parlay of unlikely and serendipitous events, the Steelers are ultimately eliminated from playoff contention due to a refereeing "error" -- namely, Succop should have been allowed to rekick, as per the NFL's own admission. Most of us expect the Stealer's to be granted the rekick regardless of the rules, or at least for Succop's kick to have been ruled good regardless of its proximity to the goalposts, or for a phantom defensive holding penalty to enable an untimed down. Not this year. But what's even better -- they haven't had a losing season since the 3:16 game.
You see, my friend, Tebow has conquered the soul of the Stealer's and claimed it as one of his own. Ref riggage can't reclaim souls. A soulless shell of themselves, they are doomed. Now lacking a soul, Tebow has vanquished the Stealer's to the worst of fates in the NFL: the Fate of Mediocrity. Long the fate owned solely by the Seahawks, the Fate of Mediocrity is the worst sentence in the NFL. Not good enough for the playoffs, or if you luck out, not good enough to win in the playoffs. Not bad enough to draft a player good enough to shake the Fate of Mediocrity and likewise not bad enough to make for an endearing "loveable loser" franchise. Always hope, always hopes to be dashed. Always just enough success to preclude success. Just enough success to keep the GM, keep the coach, keep the raping QB (but hey, we MUST cut the pot-smoking WR! We have PRINCIPLES!), keep the aging linemen, and keep the perpetual tepidity.
Nay, my friend. There is not much more we could wish for than enjoying the enduring mediocrity that is the new fate of this soulless stealer's franchise. We know when it started. It won't end.
