There is a substantial chance that Sparty's respectability is transitory. Two good years does not make a program. Sparty still hasn't been to the Rose Bowl since the Tony Mandarich Roid Rage season of 1987. No BCS games. When given the opportunity to break that string it's still LOL SPARTY.

Yep, they've won four in a row. It happens. Rivalry games are closer in the 85 scholarship era. Even the worst team in the world, which Sparty clearly isn't, can luckbox a couple wins in a row. And Michigan just happened to have three of the four worst seasons in 50 years during that stretch of Sparty "dominance". It's cool, we can deal with it. Let's see how it goes next year.

Since when is the BCS about taking deserving teams? You can argue and I think most people would agree that Michigan didn't have the best on-field resume, but so what? Call me when there's a playoff.

The best part of the Sparty whining about the Sugar Bowl is that they weren't eligible to be selected. Michigan didn't set the rules. And it's not Michigan's fault that Sparty scheduled Youngstown State, Florida Atlantic and Central Michigan during a down year. Sparties just blame everything on Michigan. It's cute.

afaik a large number of the Michigan fans on this site actually went there. Some are legacies or have family that are long-time Michigan fans.

And as far as admissions go, it's pretty damn hard not to get into Sparty.

Little Brother is not about specific on field games between the two teams. It is about where each program is. Sparty fans constantly bitch about how Michigan gets national coverage, Wal-Mart Wolverine, etc... they want so badly just to be Michigan. They want the national attention of Michigan, they want to be a national program on the scale of Michigan, and every time it looks like they are about to get there, then they have an LOL SPARTY moment. If Sparty wins Rose Bowls, wins Big 10 titles, then they're no longer little brother, but they will be until they have sustained success at a better rate than just having back to back 10-win seasons.

If you grew up in Michigan, or anywhere else for that matter, why the hell would you ever cheer for michigan state?

The best part about it is if you go anywhere else, to any other state, there are legions of fans that support their state's school without having attended it and nobody bats an eye.

I absolutely loathe the UGA fans that couldn't even get into UGA and act like they are somehow better than Ga Tech students/fans. Those types are very annoying, so I definitely agree that most states probably have those.

Wasn't meaning to troll. Just pointing out that part of the whole "big brother" aspect to a program is not giving a **** about the little brother. You have to ignore them. Laughing at them and defending yourself only gives them credit.

Same goes for UGA/Ga tech. I would much prefer to act indifferent towards GT and not revel in a victory over them than give them the satisfaction. GT will never be our top rival, but we will always be theirs. Just like Michigan's top rival will never be Michigan State, but Michigan is theirs. If you are going to be the "big brother", than constantly LOLLING at the little brother seems like it should be beneath you.

From a UGA standpoint, I've always said that beating Florida (as rare as it is) is sweeter than beating Georgia Tech, but losing to Tech (when it happens) is way, way worse than losing to Florida. I would think this is equivalent to how Michigan feels about Ohio State and Michigan State, respectively.

All things in the Bug10 return to their natural order. Just because MSU and Wiscy had better teams for a couple of years doesn't mean they got more respect, attention, and recruits than the Big2. A scandal ridden program still escapes with moderate penalties and still got the #1 coach in the land, while the other goes from embarrassment to BCS in one year. After this settles down, MSU will go back to jostling with Penn St et al to be #3 in conference.
