Would be nice. Preventative measures would be quality justice for the victims as well. I heard one of the victims speak about how she's not backing down, basically planning to raise hell against everyone involved. It then hit me that these girls are some of the only people that can't be bought (what's more valuable than a gold medal?), and having 100s of them organizing is like some Lord of the Rings ****.

At least the victims have a trusted place like MSU to make things as correct as possible.

The University President literally stuck her fingers in her ears and said "don't tell me." She refused to look at anything having to do with Nassar. Forget her job, she belongs in jail.

I wonder if the NCAA would dock some gymnastics scholarships or just admit they are the general bad behavior police and hit revenue sports.

It doesn't matter. The NCAA had all it needed to show PSU had no Institutional Control over child rapes and they pussied out. They had evidence from the Prez down the the HC and they backed off. They have done nothing about the Baylor rape culture of the football team and the coverup by the Admin. So fvck them - let them worry about the college freshman who gets that free pizza from a fan. Because we all know that sways the balance of competition.

does the ncaa have any "actual" authority

like if the ncaa suspended a player and some team just let them play anyway where does the ncaa step in

they don't control the refs, so cancel the game after the fact?

ncaa going in for the free money

I think the NCAA's real power is in the money. They can declare a team or university ineligible to play in contests and receive the money associated with that. That could be bowls, playoffs, tournaments, etc - and even like in the case of SMU - anything at all associated with the NCAA. They control the coaches ability to coach and the players eligibility. Hell we have seen coaches given a 5 year show cause death penalty for lying to them. And yet raping kids isn't addressed by them.

Now the conferences have tons of power as well. They are also pussies in this regard - because of the impact sanctions have on their revenue.

40 more years seems weak but whatever, im sure he dies in jail, hopefully suffering greatly

sweet society we have here in USA #1 where he got to 150 girls before being caught, and even after the fact we have Sparty trustees saying it's fine because some of them will get paid

Why do people agree to plea deals that are effectively life sentences? Why not plead not guilty and hope for the best?

Many reasons, the most common of which is probably a desire not to sit through a trial. In Nassar's case he already got 60 years in a federal case so it made zero difference what the judge decided in this case.

Unrelated: One of the last victims speaking today asked Nassar to give up the names of people at MSU and USAG that knew, when they knew, etc. It will be interesting to see if he decides to talk or keep his mouth shut. The media have suggested that at least 14 people at MSU knew at some point over the 20 years, but getting statements from Nassar would go a long way toward potential prosecution.

For what? If unrelated coaches get burned for having "knowledge" then football programs need another 6 digit salaried officer who's job it is to quarantine the HC.
