Can't speak for Baylor, but PSU is the pride of Pennsylvania. You can scarcely go anywhere in this god forsaken state without running into an alum. It's sad, but also completely unsurprising, that many would want to defend the honor of the institution to which they owe their livelihoods.

Indeed, given how much larger this scandal is. US Gymnastics and USOC are complicit as well. It's not just contained to Sparty. I guess maybe because the PSU scandal involved football? No matter, this is already a ****storm and I'd be shocked if more people than just Nassar don't wind up doing time, as they should.

im not sure there is a more effective solution. the reality is that decreased privacy is a cost of having greater surveilance. i think this helps curb behavioral indecency, but also diagnostic errors that go unnoticed as well.
