Sabean, master of the deal that sent Joe Nathan, Francisco Liriano, and Boof Bonser to Minnesota for 1 year of AJ Pierzynski, just received a 2 year extension.

Matt Cain, he of the 3.53 ERA (14th in the NL), is now 3-10.

The Giants may be in worse shape now than any other team in the league in terms of the future, and they just re-signed the man who did it to them for the next 2 years.

Thank god I bleed green and gold, but ouch, major beat for buddies across the bay.

Sabean obviously sucks, but it's hard to believe the future is that bleak with Lincecum, Cain, Lowry and Sanchez.

It is when this is your lineup signed for next year:

C: Benjie Molina
1B: Rich Aurilia
2B: Ray Durham
SS: ? David Eckstein probably?
3B: ? Pedro Feliz again?
LF: ? Freddy Lewis maybe?
CF: Dave Roberts
RF: Randy Winn

PS: Lowry runs real good and is really overrated by most Giants fans.

At least we try. A's owners don't even care about winning as long as they don't have to spend any money.

you should at least know something about a front office before you talk about it.

Under the last ownership group you might have had a case, but you don't anymore. Remind me again which team is getting a new stadium?

Good one, idiot.

That doesn't really work, what with the Giants having an 8 year old stadium themselves.

Meh, If you have a staff you can patch together a lineup and be competitive, especially in the NL west.

Ummm, isn't this exactly what the Giants are doing right now? Especially with the greatest player ever on their team, which they might not have next year. I'd hardly consider what they're doing now "competitive".

We'll see in the next couple free agent periods whether they'll actually sign the players they need to.

Everyone knew the Giants lineup would be terrible this year aside from Bonds. I'd like to see the A's sign someone like Barry Zito for big money. He just isn't performing anywhere near he should be.

Fremont A's... have fun.

so because a front office isn't stupid enough to drastically overpay for one mediocre player for a long period of time means they don't care about winning?

well, if that's a "winning" attitude, i'm damn happy my team doesn't do that.

I'm afraid that he is. High walk rates, high home run rates, declining strikeout numbers and lost velocity on his fastball.

Smart people saw it coming.

Didn't Sabean have the Giants within six outs of winning the World Series about four years ago?

Although to be fair, yeah, the Zito signing was bad.

Somewhere, Mike Hampton is sending Zito a card right now, thanking him for taking some of the pressure off.

Sabean mangled the vast majority of Bonds' prime years with old, mediocre players as he made mediocre trades giving up young for more old and mediocre players. How many competent GMs miss the playoffs TWICE (01 and 04) with the greatest player in baseball history having two of the greatest seasons in baseball history?

Dude, you are so ******ed. The Giants had the best player, and possibly the most valuable player of all time for nearly 15 years and only made the playoffs 4 times, and the WS once. These are not positives for Giants management.

Yes, Bonds personally chose to sign Benito Santiago to protect him in the lineup.

Is it opposite day today?

If your lineup sucks that bad, it doesnt matter your staff, you have no chance. Especially in the NL West.
