I don't think we even saw 1 game with the vaunted "Death Lineup" that would have struck fear into the league.
lol nope Ball sucks and now Lebron is older. There is no "Death Lineup" that can be constructed out of the Lakers roster, you have 1 good player. 1. You would want like 5 of them for that.

This is what happens when you let failchildren of the prior owner run a franchise. They hire a guy they remember from the 80s and then squander away a once-in-a-generation free agent.

I don't even think the Lakers believe these grades. You'd figure if Randle is an A- great, they would have at least tried to keep him or give him a similar deal to what he got from NOP--which was 2 years 18 million. I know the Fakers wanted cap space.

Zubac was a steal but the team never played him. This is like saying they're really smart for drafting Marc Gasol but they also traded him before they ever gave him minutes.

#46 Clarkson (drafted by WAS, Lakers got him for cash, outperformed everybody drafted below him).

2015
#2 Russell 6.3 WS (7 of next 11 picks better), 4.4 VORP (#6 Cauley-Stein 4.7, #11 Turner 6.8);
#27 Nance 16.4 WS (#32 Harrell 19.0), 6.2 VORP (nobody better)
#34 Anthony Brown (wiff).

2016
#2 Ingram (arguably a bust, but better than 2 of the top 5 picked);
#32 Zubac (Brogdon only player picked below him better).

Capela better than Randle, but no way Capela would go #7. So Randle grade: A-.

Clarkson gotten for nothing: A.

Russell slightly below expectations but improving: B-

Harrell was the sleeper pick, but Nance outperformed everybody else: A-

Brown: F

Time will tell for Ingram. Still young, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope: C-

Zubac was a steal: A-

So Jim's report card:
A-
A
B-
A-
F
C-
A-

That is significantly better than expectation.

I wonder if Lebron will have enough time to interview coach and GM candidates between Space Jam 2 takes.

Yeah, I'm not talking about current management.

Magic thought he was bigger than the players. All downhill after that.

When you are such a media darling like Magic, one often develops a radically skewed perspective on what you can get away with and what you can't. LeBron has it, Brett Favre had it, Zion could well develop it. And it screws things up.

He’ll let Rich Paul handle that.

How has this not been bumped recently...Lakers are rapidly turning into Knicks West.

Knicks aren't even Knicks East anymore.

Everyone believes that Durant is gonna go there while the Lakers are expected to not land even ONE free agent from the 2019 class. Meanwhile the Owner of the Pelicans said she would trade AD to the Lakers over her dead body.

I think Lakers winning a title next year at 20-1 is interesting.

If Durant leaves for the Knicks there is no clear favorite. All they would need to do is trade for Davis or sign Kawhi. There's a chance they sign Kyrie, Kemba and/or Jimmy Butler.

They have tons of players and the number 4 pick that can be traded for win now players.

There are many outcomes that give the Lakers a ~15% chance to title next year. The Pelicans owner already said she never said that quote about trading Davis to the Lakers over her dead body.

You can LOL at the Lakers all you want but Lebron is coming off a season where he barely played and was able to rest and I think he's got two more elite seasons left in him.

Kidd on instructing Middleton to intentionally miss a FT up 3 with 1.4 seconds left:

“We talked about it as he walked to the free throw line,” Kidd said. “My first response was to miss the second one. We’ll take the bet of someone making it from the other side of the floor. If we did make that free throw, our luck they get it in-bounds at half-court and we foul the 3-point shooter and it’s a four-point play. We’ll take our chances with them heaving a full-court shot.”

Kidd on intentionally fouling up 4 with 10 seconds left:

Up four against the Pistons, who had the ball with 9.6 seconds left, Milwaukee intentionally fouled a couple weeks ago.

Kidd, via Velazquez:

“They’re trying to play the game of quick twos to save their timeouts, so we’ll just play the free-throw game with them,” Kidd said. “I believe that my guys will make the free throws. They miss one and it works. It’s a free-throw game no matter what, but we wanted to send them to the line and it worked out.”

I've been a huge doubter of the Lakers and I agree with this, they are still the Lakers and while I think Ball is a confirmed bust Ingram still has some promise and Hart should be better than he was last year. Hunter is also a great fit for them if they keep the pick and go with a big-3 SFs-point guard lineup. Kuzma-James/Ingram/Hunter-Kemba Walker seems dangerous on both ends.

That said, I think there'll be a ton of value in betting the Warriors if KD leaves. Before KD they were a juggernaut! They made the finals twice and the one they lost was in 7 games after winning 73 games in the regular season, and presumably they'd do SOMETHING to replace KD, rando veteran SFs will want to join them to ring chase.

I think that will already be factored in to the price after the Warriors won 5 straight games without Durant. I guess that could change depending on how the Finals goes.

If Kawhi goes there I'd be blah at my bet. How many league vet mins they gonna roster 8, 9? If we've learned anything it's that you still need a bench to win a title. Rather they sprinkle it around and actually build.

This is only really true if your guys get hurt. Warriors are fine if kd and Klay are healthy and struggled without them. Looney and cousins were also not healthy. Lakers aren’t winning **** if any of their big 2 or big 3 get hurt. Doesn’t really help to be that deep in their situation. Their studs are not replaceable at all.
