As a Dallas Stan it always shocked me when people, especially other players and coaches talked about how smart Kidd was. In his first run in Dallas he was demonstrably stupid. He said so many completely idiotic things in post game interviews I never believed it. Maybe he was a total savant.
One time I think he got a russellwestbrook but the mavs lost and he was asked about it sort of raining on his parade. His response was rambling about how people didn’t have to throw him a parade. It wasn’t him joking either. It is like he is an alien who just beamed down to play games.
I don’t question his basketball skills. Dragging the nets to the finals twice was absolutely amazing, and he was extremely important in 2011. He is just neither smart or intelligent by any conventional metrics. Honestly kidd’s Intelligence is one of the biggest incongruities in my lifetime.
All that being said he would be perfect for the Lakers. He would let LeBron run the team and I actually think he would be a good mentor for Lonzo.
