Alonso P3 ==> P4 ==> P3

lol FIA

I guess this year we are going to have to get our amusement from anywhere but the race wins and title battle
Even Max cutting through the field wasn't very entertaining. DRS on the straight, easy overtake, next one

One team dominance is simply terrible for F1

A large part of the problem is that this circuit really sucks for overtaking. There is really only one, not very long, straight you can overtake on. All the circuits should have at least two good overtaking spots, but apparently, F1 is fine with these boring circuits where most of the passing occurs due to pit-stop strategies. The other issue is that somehow Ferrari's pace has gotten worse than it was last year, so there isn't anyone that is very close to RBs pace. Expect to see lots of exciting mid-grid battles this year. Can't wait.

Russell seems to always grind out decent results. Lewis will get beat again this year.
Lewis needs a good car and poor team-mate to mask his waning performance as a driver.

Ferrari should have thought about that before getting rid off Binotto

Really all they needed was a strategist. Qualifying performances were excellent but they were routinely giving away 2-3 spots per race with dumb strategy calls.

The gap between Verstappen & Leclerc last season was much more than strategy

They looked competitive for a while at the beginning but let's not forget that by the end of the season, the RB was much superior. In the 2nd half of the season, Charles had no win compared to Max's 9 (in 11 races)

They're like 40 seconds off already this year.

Late last year they were generally finishing ~8 seconds behind Max, so much more competitive, and in the first half of the season, Leclerc probably should have had 5-6 wins.

And my comment wasn't implying that the gap between Leclerc and Max was only down to strategy anyway.

The FIA continues to be a joke. That said, teams should be aiming for 5.10s rather than 5.00s when serving a pit penalty.

Aston Martin is looking for new pit crew members.
Here is the list of required skills:
  • Be able to count to five
  • Be able to pretend Lance is a world-class driver

Maybe I am missing something that has come out in the past couple of days but pretty sure the additional penalty was not because they didn't wait 5 seconds, but because the rear jack was touching the car for the duration.

Frist two races, average time in secionds behind winner.

Verstappen 2.675
Perez 5.99

Alonso 29.675

Russell 40.865
Hamilton 41.015
Sainz 41.96
LeClrec 43.16 (only one race finished)

Really shows the gap between RB, Alonso and the rest

I'm excited to see what Stroll can do with a full healed wrist and without car issues. Used to not like the kid but can't help but respect him after Bahrain. Also got a fair chunk of time for Lawrence Stroll after seeing what Aston are doing this year. Would have been easy for him to just pay for his sons seat at any number of teams but he's gone balls deep and is doing what many rich businessmen have tried and failed. Really rooting for AM this year. No doubt they will win a race when the RB's inevitably take each other out.

Checo is only competitive at street courses it seems, but reliability issues for both in a single race has happened a couple times and hopefully Alonso is there for the win when it does.

No team has ever won all races in a season and it does look like Alonso is the most likely to take advantage when the RedBulls makes a setup mistake or crash out. One of the sprint races is the most likely as it looks like it still takes time to get the right setup on the RedBull and you only have 1 session to do that in a sprint weekend.

Albert Park streetmap is up on the F1 website, and shows 4 (FOUR) DRS zones...

Could get spicy.

I am on my way to Melbourne now. RedBull doesn't need the DRS zones to win here but it will hopefully make midfield overtaking possible. Also it was supposed to be 4 last year but there were security concerns with porpoising in the new zone.

Now if Max could do something similar, this race will be fun

LOL Leclerc, thinking that everybody will move aside when he wants to overtake them

Feels like something is wrong with the sport if I can't even get excited after those kind of opening laps because we all know Max is about to go through DRS zones 200 times and will make a meal of any car ahead

Albon got lucky there, if he slides a couple of meters more, it could have been an accident like Antoine Hubert

Russell completely shafted by the red flag

It has been like that for years. Mercedes and Red Bull switched roles and the moment of the switch produced the best season in the last 15 years.

Great duel at the start between HAM and VER.

Hulkenberg could have killed Albon there, that was REALLY scary

Albon in the dust cloud was really scary, it's amazing he didn't get hit.

Will Hamilton get a penalty? No he will not, he didn't need to be within 10 seconds of the safety car.

Will the Red Bulls break down?
