Starting to re-think my theory that there is no way Perez is tanking.

Thinking now that Perez wants out of RB for some strange reason.

Ive seen this happen MANY times before over the DECADES I have been watching F1... i am not saying that this is the situation with Sergio, but when a driver is no longer going to have future contract with a team, their performance drops off dramatically from either team support or from driver motivation.

Like I mentioned, I've this this scenario play out over and over again over the years and was impetus in saying that LuLu was leaving Merc.

I'm a Checo fan, but this is so entertaining I hope it continues. Where would he even go after Red Bull? I've seen McLaren and Haas rumoured, but I'm not sure why you would even want an aging, so so driver, unless sponsorz.

Perez has a contract for next year but if he keeps this up then RedBull will put someone else in the car and his career is done. I think he tries to hard to match Verstappen while he should focus on just getting decent results.

he signed a new contract last year though. 2 more years after this one, no?

Edit. Ah ok only one more

Contracts are semantics imo. Gasly, Riccardio, all had contracts but ended up going in different directions. All up to how much the team is willing to eat and if another team wants said driver.

As long as the driver gets paid, the seat isn’t guaranteed. Checo could be out in a snap if Helmut said so.

For now, with Max singlehandedly winning the Constructor’s all is fine.

RB does want that Driver 1-2 finish though, it’s a stat they haven’t accomplished yet.

Red bull are now good enough to have two top class drivers - so if Lewis did join Red bull they could clearly handle having those two drivers and still win the championship. Red bull are now in that late 80s early 90s McLaren era. Also I'm not ruling out Lando either.

Could use a safety car or rain or something. Need action guys!

safety car definitely improved the race. Enjoyed the last 15 laps.

Exit Nyck de Vries

Nobody can be very surprised. He just wasn't good enough.

Looks like Daniel will be doing the rest of the season.

Danny is going to replace Checo next season then if he doesn't un**** himself one assumes.

Now we know why Daniel didn't have a problem being a reserve driver. I'm sure RB told him of their possible plans.

Daniel showing RB that he's a company man likely means that Perez is on thin ice.

Both Yuki and Ricciardo are going to suck balls in the RB. Not much of an improvement over Checo imo

Does anyone know what went wrong for Checo? I'm thinking got on the wrong side of Helmut and tbh I think Dan just gets along well with the Redbull co-owner son.

If Danny got humiliated by Lando for the last two seasons, why would anyone think it won’t be even worse vs Max

and please no ‘something something car suits him better’

I think RB putting him in the main car next year would be a big mistake

I don’t think Dan gets the RB seat next year, in fact I think Yuki has a better chance than Dan. This 2nd half season will be fun to watch, I think Yuki smokes Dan.

Checo retains RB seat but Yuki will be a threat IF he can destroy Riccardio. But with Honda entering the game again, Yuki will most likely jump ship.

Checo needs to hire a good mental coach, up his mental game and hopefully that translates into better performance on the track. I quite like him but he’s on super thin ice.

Apparently Leclerc got approached in May by RedBull, interesting to see how that plays out. Sainz & Leclerc must be so tilted with all the mistakes.

He's back to the at least Adrian Newey inspired designed Alpha Tauri so that may suit his driving that chassis as opposed to the McLaren. Time will tell and we will know if anything has changed if he is straight away on the pace with Yuki

He's a perfect fit for the American audience. So you have Max for Europe and Dan for the Americas and Oceania. Asia is a bit of mix which is why they have Yuki also to keep Honda happy.

The Red Bull is optimized for Max and everyone has looked like crap in that car for at least the first half year (Gasly, Albon, Checo). Checo was at least making solid progress in his time in that seat up until whatever the F this last stretch has been. Don't know if there's something going on behind the scenes or if Checo had convinced himself that maybe he actually could challenge Max and then completely crumbled under the pressure.

Would be funny to see Danny Ric in that seat just for the massive lulz.

I've heard this silly excuse so many times and it makes me LOL

Max will wipe the floor with Albon, Gasly or Perez in any car.

Albon "I understand why they built car around Verstappen"

Obviously Max is wiping the floor with those guys no matter what the car, but him having a unique driving style and the car tailored to that style means almost anyone will struggle initially, especially Danny Ric.

I've seen a ton of "car made for Max" arguments but never actually any explanation behind it. Can we get specifics on what is specific about the car that it fits his driving style (which) ?

Albon touched on it in the article linked

Quote:
"This isn’t to throw shade at anyone at Red Bull Racing or Max or anything, honestly. But the car is set up in a unique way that is built around the lead driver, and that’s Max. And, look, I totally get why.

"I mean, when all is said and done, he might be the greatest driver of all time. But he has a very distinct style of driving, and he likes the car set up a certain way that’s hard for a lot of drivers to sync up with. Of course, you can tinker and tweak your own car, but just the Red Bull in general is suited to Max’s style."

Albon continued to elaborate on Verstappen's driving style and how the Red Bull cars operate:

"I like a lot of front end and nose. I’ve been teammates with George and Charles and I’ve always had way more nose than them. Basically think front-end sensitivity.

"And when I got into the Red Bull … I mean there was so much nose on the thing that if you blew on the wheel the car would turn.

"If you play Call of Duty, or a game like that, turn your sensitivity up to the highest it will go. That’s what it’s like to drive that car."

Here's another article that delves into the different driving styles and attempts to explain Checo's downward spiral.

https://the-race.com/formula-1/perez...do-at-mclaren/

Basically, Checo knew he had a stretch of tracks coming up after the road circuits that heavily favoured Max's driving style so Checo was apparently tinkering with his own driving style to try and mirror Max's, but with catastrophic results.

I think they have been borne out of the Marc Marquez HRC where he only ever seemed to get the most out of the bike when he was winning the championships and never his team-mates.
