Come on - is it really that hard to stay within the limits. The track is one of the easiest on the calendar.

Yesterday 40+ laps were invalidated. So that answers your question.

Has Lewis -for example- got any incentive to race from 18th when you know 8th gets you 1point

What's the downside of awarding points all the way to last finishing car?

This season, there has never been any sweat for the top points and most times neither for the podium points. The most interesting fights are in fact the cluster in the mid-pack but they're basically fighting for no points. Were they to give points for those positions, we could actually make it more meaningful

teammate comparisons by percentage. too hungover to do this the other way around.

Norris 480% of Piastri
Hulkenberg 450% of Magnussen
Alonso 297% of Stroll
Ocon 193% of Gasly
Verstappen 154% of Perez
Hamilton 147% of Russell
Sainz 113% of Leclerc

Points went from top 5 to top 6 to top 8 to top 10 over the years. Personally I think top 10 is enough especially when taking retirements into account. They fight very hard for that 10th spot because the difference between zero points and 1 point has a lot of impact. I am not so sure if people would still fight as much for 2 versus 3 points in places 18 and 19 especially since giving points lower down will inflate the points at the top even more. Also giving more points in more positions increases the impact of retirements.

i feel it was better when it was top 6 only. i recall quite a lot of 'omg [crap team] (arrows or someone) might actually hang on to 6th place and win their first championship point of the season!!' races. a lot of teams would finish the year on 0 and deservedly so

they still try to gin up excitement over 10th vs 11th but who cares

I don't think the point system affects the drivers very much. They are racers with an ego, they want to overtake anyone in front of them. On regular basis we see great battles when no points are involved

Not these days when cars are actually more competitive - top 10. And yes I said more competitive despite what you think are processional races these days.

The ratio between race wins and pole positions is a statistic of any significance?

If your car isn't the fastest over one lap, but you still win races, does that say anything? If you have many poles, but don't convert them into race wins, does it say anything negative about driver's skill?

Wins/pole positions

1.62 Verstappen
1.59 Stewart
1.55 Prost
1.45 Alonso
1.33 Schumacher
1.00 Hamilton
0.97 Mansell
0.93 Vettel
0.76 Clarke
0.63 Senna

(Max ratio is steadily going down this year, obv)

Probably a reliability stat as much as anything else?

Yeah, that would explain Senna. I looked up his stats. He retired 40% (!) of his races
