It seems the owner Foley has his heart set on the Black Knights.

That is just a horrible name. too bad.

I haven't seen anyone who really likes that name.

It will be interesting to see years 3-5 how interest is, especially since they are likely to be ****ty for the first few years unless they get a super good GM that can find good available talent in the expansion draft.

It'll be super interesting because if Hockey does well then the NBA should show up fairly soon since they'd be guaranteed to do well.

They are raising expectations way too high by talking about competing in 3 years.

Well, I think it will be very dependent on how good of a management team they have. Although, expansion draft will likely mean they won't have a superstar for a pretty significant amount of time and they'll likely have to luck out on the entry drafts but at least they'll be getting top end picks for at least the first few years you would think.

Even if the bink a couple of picks, how long will it be until they have 3 legit top 4 Dmen and 2 bonafide centers? You think they are going to attract free agents?

team could have a nice core if they just raid everyone's best AHL prospects in the expansion draft, rather than going for the overpaid NHL bums that will be available

why not? money talks, and they should have a lot of it to spend next summer
could easily see them doing the thing where they sign 5-6 decent UFAs at least
and actually, because of the expansion draft there should be more free agents on the market than usual

http://www.generalfanager.com/freeag...team=all&UFA=1

should just go ALLIN and sign Benn, Marchand, Oshie, Burns & Hedman, then drop the mic

If they are smart they will go the other way and just tank the first 2 years, take on every bad salary and stockpile assets. That would provide an actual talent base.

I'm pretty doubtful of the young talent the expansion draft will provide. Ahl players are there for a reason.

like Tyler Toffoli & Tanner Pearson?

there are plenty of worthwhile players who don't get fast-tracked to the show

I see both sides of the argument.

If some GMs are stupid and don't protect some good underrated young guys they could be a lot better than they should be. That being said, they should basically expect to be on par with the Oilers and build from there.

Meh hockey, unlike any other sport, allows you to catch up pretty quickly.

Basketball you're stone drawing dead till you get 2 superstars, football requires tons of development, baseball could be done with tons of money I suppose - but hockey has so much parity that you can get good with some luck.

I think Vegas is far better situated to deal with a crappy team than like a Phoenix or other non-traditional market because fans of other teams will still want to plan trips around seeing their team, plus the random walk-in/curiosity factor from being right by the strip.

Honestly hope it does well but I'm still skeptical as to how it does in about 10 years time.

A lot depends on their stadium deal. Teams that don't own their building don't fare well.

It's a good team to support if you're not form the US of A or Canada. I'll buy a jersey and wear it (especially if you can get one without a player name which I belive is rather uncommon in US sports merchandise)

It's uncommon for people to wear but you can easily get one

Someone said they have to reach 60% of cap, does that have to be right after the draft or before the start of the season? If the latter, they could actually game this pretty well, draft the best possible cheap/prospect team with 2 good goalies and then acquire some bad contracts along with more prospects/picks to reach the floor

Pretty sure that is for start of the season but I don't remember that being specified.

yeah being cap compliant on day 1 of the season like everyone else is what i would expect

which means they could have like $50m to spend in free agency if they want

I played golf with two guys from the NHL who were in Vegas for the conference/vote thing. They said the NHL is committed to making the Las Vegas franchise competitive quickly. Should be interesting.
