ya i mean that is an entirely different argument and i think we can all agree that the defense was ATROCIOUS and obv that is what ultimately cost them the game.

however that aside it was just inexcusable to not at least give your offense some time to try and win it since NIU also had a terrible defense.

RBK, hes not saying the coach not calling the timeouts wasnt a mistake, just that you saying it was the biggest mistake in the game isnt true. Them going prevent and letting them march down the field was their problem.

I think?

Do you guys really think a multi-million dollar a year head coach with a huge ego will listen to some $50k stat nerd about when to punt and when to go for it?

i eagerly await the day when we have something like a tied game with 1:00 left, 1st and goal, the defence decides to let them score, the offence decides not to score too soon, and we all just sit there watching them walk around discussing the finer points of strategy for 55 seconds before taking a knee, then missing a field goal

So amazing that the only real coach on 2p2 is defending an obviously stupid coaching decision in the stupid coaches thread.

My all time favorite move is when teams call timeout with 8 seconds left to kick game winning fg. Ball sails through uprights with 2 seconds left.
Option 1 - kick gw fg with 0 sec left
Option 2 - kick go ahead fg and kick off

Never understood that. I have the whole thing about kicking on 3rd down in case you fumble, but I have never in my life seen a team fumble the snap and get it back to where they can just retry the kick on 4th down.

Where?

For the eleventybillionth time, Needle is saying the more egregious coaching error is not realizing that your D sucks, and playing a more attacking style to try to pressure the offense, as opposed to the prevent that was actually played.

Bratz if it's just a bad snap the place holder can just spike it on 3rd down

This never gets old. Even better when they're kicking on 4th down.

How many times have you seen this and then seen the subsequent squib kick returned for TD? Probably also zero. It's just a coach doing something "clever" that really has microscopic effect on game EV - in real life, they never gain or lose anything by doing it.

The point is why ever give them the ball back? Instead of a 100% chance to win, it is now 99.5%.

not to mention injuries to special teams players, potential for committing a penalty that gives another play, etc etc

What it doesnt include is that with 9 seconds left and the game tied at 48, uga had the ball on the GT 2 and instead of kicking the fg tried to run in for a TD and fumbled.
