So basically both teams deserved to lose, lol. I can think of a lot of games where I wish that could actually happen...kinda like that Teen Jeopardy tournament where all 3 kids panicked and bet everything in final jeopardy and tied with $0, and they didn't let any of them advance.

Arizona at Indianapolis
Tied 13 - 13 in 4th quarter.

Arizona with the ball at the Indy 31 with the clock stopped, 17 seconds and 1 timeout.

1st and 10 at IND 31
(0:17 - 4th) (Run formation) C.Palmer left guard to IND 28 for 3 yards (R.Melvin).

Arians is settling for a 45 yard FG despite having plenty of time and a timeout to try to pick up more yardage.

(0:12 - 4th) Timeout #2 by IND at 00:12.

Pagano calls timeout for some reason, even though AZ settling for the long FG is realistically the best case scenario for Indy.

2nd and 7 at IND 28
(0:12 - 4th) (Run formation) C.Palmer kneels to IND 29 for -1 yards. PENALTY on IND-Q.Wilson, Defensive 12 On-field, 5 yards, enforced at IND 28 - No Play.

Indy makes the FG 5 yards closer than what Arizona was trying to settle for.

I'm just going to leave this here, STEVE is the dumbest coach at any level of football

The pbp isn't totally correct, their second down play ended with 9 seconds, not 5. But what makes this so amazing is that STEVE had two timeouts and just said nope, don't want to run one more play and try and pick up a few yards for a field goal, nor try and throw a 42 yard Hail Mary. I'm going to miss him

Sean Peyton taking points off the board and accepting the penalty after a made fg only to send in the offense to try and draw NE offsides, then send the kicking team back out to attempt a fg was nice.

If Rivers spikes with too many men on the field he's potentially going to get an offensive 10 second runoff, ending the game. There's absolutely a real chance he doesn't get a spike off.

Regardless, Gase decided to rescue defeat from the jaws of victory, only to win anyway.

I think it could have been a good play if it was a slightly shorter FG and/or a dumber team on the other side of the ball

It seemed like the whole offense knew what was going on and probably would have easily gotten the spike. It was the 2 idiots from the ST unit who ran onto the field resulting in mass chaos.

Or they thought there was no time for a spike and their only chance was to create mass confusion in the hopes of tricking the defense into calling a timeout. It was a genius plan that would've worked if their kicker could kick.

Look at the video posted and continue counting down until Rivers realizes a timeout was called, you can see him yelling at the 2 guys to get off the field still when he realizes a timeout was called and stops. There would have been 5 seconds left and he was roughly 10+ yards from center. That gives him 2 seconds to start moving to toward the center and actually get there.

Remember, he has to pause for a second before the ball is snapped or it is illegal motion, 10 second run off, and it takes a full second for the snap and spike to take place.

Watching the difference in execution in San Diego trying to get a last second kick off and how New England handled it earlier in the day is quite amazing.

Would you believe this worked for him before despite it being obvious they were never snapping the ball?

San Diego would've been damn close, I think they get it off in time, but lol dolphins for helping out.

I was fortunate enough on Sunday to witness the above, the Saints accept penalty / try to draw NE offsides and whatever it was that the Chargers thought they could do without a timeout left and that lol timeout bailout.

I quoted this one because Pagano will never be a head coach again after he loses this job and I want as many of his decisions as possible to be listed and quoted itt.

The worst decision was obvious the Chargers because it was a thought out decision.

The Miami timeout was a product of a terrible decision somehow triggering an even worse decision that only happened because of the former decision. This was the 2nd worst.

The Pagano timeout was next. Jesus Christ these coaches and how they use their timeouts.

The Saints one was just hilarious. First, they should've went for it. 2nd did they actually think the Patriots would ever fall for this??? 3rd, they forgot to go for it again.

Man, if I was a reporter after the game, I would just lay into these coaches for these decisions....I mean it really sucks they would then be blackballed for asking a good question as the coach needs to be ****ing accountable for the billion dollar team they are running and trying to lead 53 men to victory while maintaining their livelihoods...Its quite disgusting they are let off the hook for these things. Sometimes people make mistakes...hoodie makes mistakes...and he gets called out on it. And its not like its SUPER rare he makes them actually...few times a year, but whatever. He still produces because he has such great edges in a lot of other aspects.

Now these ****ing idiots keeping their jobs who make many worse in game decisions while also being mediocre (Fischer, Payton, Marvin, PAGANO!) makes no sense. I'm all for giving guys a little rope as you need people to feel secure in their job in order to have confidence to gamble occasionally, but good lord several laugh outloud decisions made every week sometimes by the same ****ing coaching staff.

Hell, Ive even argued in my own head like...well it is moving very fast down on the field....lots of pressure....i might be willing to give them a blunder a game. But a lot of these ****s should have gotten the boot a long time ago. Then a good reporter wants to ask them to explain their **** up, and get them to admit they made a mistake and they won't even let them back in the media room anymore. Pussies

Lol yes you would surely be a tough guy reporter. It would be hilarious to see the interaction when the coach starts asking you questions you have no clue about, but are part of their job.

Football/sports coaching/management is unlike any other job in world. Especially when you consider the $ involved. In pretty much every working field in the universe you are held accountable. But football coaches, who make millions of dollars a year, are somehow not only not held accountable, but they are constantly given passes for blowing the simplest decisions while given credit for something they have no control over. Like punting on 4th & 1, trusting the defense, and the returner muffs the punt- "THAT'S WHY YOU PUNT JOHN".

Last night the Giants were down 14-7 with 3 timeouts, 1:10 left, and the Lions had the ball on 4th & ~5 from the 39. It was clear they were going to attempt a 56 yard FG. McAdoo didn't use one of his timeouts, so the Lions obv let the clock run, and Prater made the fg with like 30 seconds left. Then the Giants got the ball back, they ran a running play (risking fumble/injury) that gained 9 yards and ran into the locker room with all 3 of their timeouts. This type of idiotic **** happens in every game every week and nobody says anything. It's insane.

This is a ridiculous defense of coaches (or anything in general). So if I were to ask McAdoo why he sat on his timeouts, or why he ran that play (rather than knee it) when it was clear he had no intention of trying to score, it would be reasonable for him to get super defensive and point out I wouldn't optimally know how to design a tackling drill in practice rather than answer the question?

If by 'held accountable' you mean they get fired, take a job one rung down with another team for a still hefty salary, then get another shot a couple years later... then yeah, they're held accountable.

Chuck Pagano will have another head coaching job by opening day of 2020.

We were trying to leave enough time where if he made it, we could run another play. Rivers was stopping all those guys trying to run off the field. He was going to clock it with two seconds left. We tried to call it with 12 seconds left, we got 10. So if he kicks it and makes it, we got a chance to maybe running around, throw the ball around to get something going.
