Even Nantz and Simms were baffled. Progress might just be happening folks.

Hell, Simms even agreed with Buffalo going on 4th and 1 with 7:30 left in the game. Thought I was dreaming.

Basically if you pass 100% of the time, DL doesn't have to worry about gap integrity (especially if the DL is 2 gap instead of 1 gap) so they can straight rush, those blokes don't have to worry about looking at the RB unless it's their responsibility, etc. All of that means less timing/space and all that stuff that makes a pass less likely to succeed than what we think it would. You could also easily unbalance the line if you know they're throwing.

Godgers has already lost a step, he's not as mobile as people think and everything is squeezed on the GL, so beating a defender to a spot isn't as easy as you think it is also you're adding plays that get your QB hit. Individually that's all minor, but it adds up in %'s of effectiveness.

anyway back to LOL coaching, bowles of the Jets challenges a 3 yard pass on 3rd and long.

Also all the shovel passes especially third and long in the red zone. Just dumb.
You seem to be making some assumptions that don't seem supported. Some teams DO apparently pass it 100% of the time and yet the defensive players still seem to nominally respect the low but nonzero chance of run.

Maybe you are imagining a scenario in which they pass 100% of the time and also announce before the game thst they must pass at all times or their families are killed.

maybe the packers true strategy is to pass 90% of the time and they are simply on a hot streak of passes

Ole miss scores to go down 12 with 3 mins left vs Alabama.

Kicks XP to go down 11. Am I missing something here.

They onside kick and recover too.

charlie strong punted with 1:50 left and 2 timeouts down 7 on like 4th and 9. His team had given up 50 pts.

I watched two games yesterday where Both coaches punted with not much time left and down 8 or more points

ND punted and never got the ball back.

Probably happens like 20 games a weekend in college

Horrible timeout usage by Jay Gruden and the Redskins at the end of the first half.

Redskins have 4th and 1 on the Dallas 18. They're trailing 13-7 and they have one timeout while Dallas has three. The Skins call a timeout with 26 seconds remaining in the half instead of running the play clock and game clock run all the way down. Left the door wide open for Dallas to try to respond with a FG of their own before halftime, but Dallas gave up. Dodged a bullet but that kind of ineptitude is maddening.

Another gripe: Late in the first quarter, Dallas committed a penalty on 3rd and 1. Instead of taking the penalty, Gruden declined it, forcing Dallas into 4th and 1 on the Redskins 30. They converted with a 28-yard pass to a seldom used tight end and went on to score a touchdown on the drive.

This one is a bit results-oriented but come the **** on.

jack del rio called a timeout with 2:04 left in the game which a) gave the falcons a chance to pass risk-free (they did) and b) saved only 4 seconds instead of the 40 that could have been saved after the two minute warning if atlanta got a first down (they did)

The options he left Dallas were: Go for it, Kick a 47 yard fg or Punt.

Gruden made a mistake

This was the worst decision of the week and probably the year. The whole thing was so dumb. The qb rolls to the sidelines and instead of throwing it away takes the sack on third down, they then casually stroll out the punt team as if there is 5 minutes left. Was just completley mind blowing.

Would be willing to bet this will not crack top 10 worst decisions of the season.

There's a first time for everything in regards to new coaching debacles. Mike Zimmer did one that you'd think was impossible. Vikings in range for a 41-yard field goal attempt.

Clock running. Lineup to pretend like you're going to go for it inside 1 minute remaining in the 2Q. Let the clock run down because you know the fat coach on the other side thinks you're actually going to go for it. Burn the clock so Rodgers doesn't have as much time to get team into field goal range. Good decision.

DELAY OF GAME. Vikings had 2 timeouts remaining. NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Yeah, it's a clever inversion of the usual burn a timeout when you could just take a delay of game. Real man bites dog stuff.

Yeah agree, the lead up to the DOG was pretty smart and definitely an above average coaching decision, and then the lack of TO is so dumb, its like he genuinely believed there was no value to those 5 yards, "Eh 46 is a makeable kick, 41 is a makeable kick, whats the difference"

On balance its like a neutral play basically but in a game that he otherwise coached quite exceptionally it sucks to do something like that. Its also possible that wasnt the plan and Bradford just got all flummoxed or something, new team, loud crowd, Bradford is a spaz, etc

I saw one common and not particularly high leverage, but still obviously stupid, decision today. Miami (down 7-0, 1st qtr) had 1st and 10 own 30 and ran a first down play resulting in a gain of 9. But there was a defensive hold, 5 yard penalty and automatic first down. Miami accepted the penalty. That isn't even close to right. Even 2nd and 1 from the 35 is just directly better than 1st and 10 from the 35, and in this spot you get to have it from the 39. Not a big deal, but it's the "taking $999 rather than $1000" kind of "obviously stupid".

Yeah coaches have been doing that forever but they just don't seem to get that 2nd and 1 is basically the best possible down and distance you can be in (I guess if you somehow had 1st and 1) and they routinely give that up for a first down

Yeah you are probably right it was just so maddening at the time. I can take a lot of the stupid decisions these morons make but I cant stand when they punt like this at the end of the game and like the ND game.
