Not as long as the best predictor whether you will be hired as an NFL coach is if you are related to an NFL coach.

How bad is that? It’s almost unheard of. According to the drive finder at Pro Football Reference, there have been 2,111 drives in NFL games since 1998 in which the team with the ball trailed by 9-17 points (in other words, they needed to score more than once but weren’t totally out of it) with less than seven minutes left. Out of those 2,111 drives, only one took more time than the 5:16 the Chiefs took off the clock on Saturday.

Poor kid will never admit he made a mistake growing up. Probably will be cellmates with A. Hernandez by age 20.

My friend in KC who wasn't a huge football fan named his first kid Andrew Reid [last name] less than a year before Reid became the Chiefs coach. Now it looks like he's an Andy Reid fanatic any time anyone in KC finds out the kid's full name.

Gotta run those names past everyone you know. We'd have told him Andrew Reid is going to give the kid problems.

Pederson has doubled down on this whole thing. At his introductory press conference he explained the importance of keeping the ball out of Brady's hands...plus Maclin was out so they didn't have any WRs?

They still had Avant/Wilson/Conley/Hammond who had all caught passes that game. Plus Kelce/Charc/etc.

I guess they're just so poorly coached they can't run a no huddle without Maclin, who they already knew was injured heading into the game?

0 chance that is a pick 6. ANDREW RIED likely instructed his defense to just sit on the ball if they got a turnover. Don't wanna leave Brady too much time.

Y'all are missing the fact that ANDREW REID somehow still had 3 timeouts left late in a game. Baby steps

"No. 1, No. 1, we did not want to give Tom Brady the ball back," Pederson said. "We knew we were going to score. We knew we had timeouts and time. We were also limited with the number of receivers. We were down numbers. We felt like at that point, not to give the ball back to Tom Brady.

Simply incredible. "Hey lets not score quick enough we could actually kick deep and still get the ball back or survive a first down. They have TOM BRADY. Gotta slow it down and rely on the 8% onsides shot/score/win it in OT (because they'll never go for 2 despite the obvious logic extension) parlay"

Another wrinkle on the "you should go for 2 if you score when down 14" thing is that although I dont think Ive ever actually seen a team correctly do so, at least a handful of times I've seen teams score, kick XP, and then score again later and decide to go for 2 to either win or lose in regulation rather than kick in OT. Although technically they can be viewed as independent decisions, its interesting what it implies about the ability of coaches to think ahead and make decisions in a coherent way. Kick XP/go for 2 is much worse than go for 2/go for 2 and it eliminates any of the conventional posthoc rationalizations coaches usually use.

Spoiler:
KANSAS CITY, MO—Lamenting his total lack of urgency while chewing, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed frustration with himself Thursday over his poor clock management in the final moments of Union Grill’s 72-ounce “Belt Buster” steak challenge. “I just lost track of the clock, and the next thing I knew, there was only one minute left and still 15 ounces of steak to go,” said Reid, bemoaning the fact that he leisurely dipped every piece of the 4.5-pound sirloin in A.1. Sauce while precious seconds continued running off the clock. “Once I realized how little time was left, I tried to hurry up and managed to get most of it down, but I had trouble lining up the next chunk. I always say how important it is to eat with all your heart for the full 60 minutes, and don’t look ahead to the next meal, and days like today show why. But there’s no one to blame but myself.” Reid added that to avoid a similar mistake in the future, he is simply going to eat the entire steak in a single mouthful.

Many of these decisions though are based on risk management and not mathematics. NOT risk management of will these decisions make it more or less likely that we will win the game. Rather risk management of will I get blamed for the loss if we don't convert and how does that increase the probability of me loosing my $5 million a year job.

Pat Shurmur was a awful head coach. Search this thread for examples.

Here's his resume since he's been a head coach.

Cleveland Browns (2011–2012)
Head Coach

Philadelphia Eagles (2013–2015)
Offensive Coordinator

Philadelphia Eagles (2015)
Interim Head Coach

Minnesota Vikings (2016-Present)
Tight Ends

Love how he got to be the interim head coach for 1 game to Tight Ends Coach. That is just hilarious
