Go for 2 and win in OT. If it is a 4 point game it is a really easy go for it. If it is a 6 point game it is a really easy FG. This is definitely in the middle, but I think I lean towards going for it because a TD wins the game and driving 99 yards is really tough. As someone who had Saints -5 I was very happy they kicked the fg, then very upset 5 minutes later.

this is certainly conventional baseball wisdom, doesn't necessarily mean its right though.

as for that situation, depends a lot on who's on deck, etc. with 1 out, unless there were 2 scrubs coming up next, pitching to him seems reasonable. he's not that likely to hit a home run, less than 10% of the time even for the best in the league.

Apparently it's sometimes an on the field call by Mustaine (backup QB/holder) based on how the other team responds to the formation.

I love the idea of having a read option for xp situations.

Imagine the Pats letting Welker kick PATs on a regular basis with a QB holding and a couple TEs on the protection team.

So notre dame is down 28 in the 4th q. They score a td: and go for 2. Wait what?

If they make it they are down by 20. Score two more td+2pts and you cut that lead to 4. Yeah that's helpful. More likely they are chasing the missed 2 pt conversion points all half. Down 22 kick the ep tard

If you want to nitpick a stupid coaching decision from that game, throwing on your own 15 yard line when you could just run the half out is pretty dumb, and of course led to Stanford getting a half ending field goal

yeah it's one of those things that is obviously correct if your goal is to win the game but incorrect if your goal is to keep your job.

i also think it was incorrect for GB to try to get out of the endzone after stuffing the 4th and goal. given the gameplan to pass v cover 2 any turnover/tipped ball is hurts too much. take the saftey and the +1 pt and play field position v cultuh

I am not sure this is true anymore after the MJD/Westbrook incidents garnered so much attention.

Well maybe that's an argument for not passing (although you do have Rodgers), but surely running the ball up the middle is a better option than intentionally taking a safety, no?

Disagree. Coaches are more like politicians than coaches. They coach to keep their job. Normally, that involves winning but sometimes the line between the two can be blurry.

I was at a bar watching and most people thought they should have let them score, all the sports talk I've heard today is ripping McCarthy, this seems to be a spot where most people are recognizing the foolishness.
