Miami not being able to get off another play before the 2-minute warning was asinine, think the previous play ended at 2:15.

Revis actually catching the ball was just as absurd. How hard can it be in the defensive huddle on 4th and whatever simply to remind everybody to knock it down ala Tom Jackson?

In Tampa Bay's last possession, I want to know why they have Glennon run backward (avoiding all contact) and take a knee on 3rd Down, but they ran semi regular running plays on 1st & 2nd. They were safe runs but there was contact on both.

This happens all the time. It tilts me so hard. Yeah, yeah no one wants the negative rushing yards. I know. This is a pathetic excise

Prob so the defense doesn't pursue your QB super hard and expose him to getting jacked up

Until teams stop paying free agents based on counting stats like interceptions, this will always be an issue. Catching a 4th down bomb when nobody is around you is obviously dumb but theoretically it makes the player a ****load more money so they're gonna do it, at the minor detriment to their team.

And during the broadcast Gruden was saying how Mike Sherman admitted 'We've have problems on 1st down' or something to that effect

RE: Bringing more rushers on Hail Mary plays

A point I've heard is that DC's get worried lateral pass plays could beat them if there are too many guys back behind the play

Wouldn't make much of a diff w/ 3 vs 4 but additional blitzers it could be a factor

Lateral pass plays to who? Everyone is downfield.

Brian Westbrook earned a ****ton of respect when he took a knee at the 2 to salt the game away instead of scoring the TD. Infinitely better than his QB who had no earthly idea an NFL game could end in a tie.

I don't think the play summary even does justice to how stupid the playcalling was. Not only did the Dolphins have 0 positive rushes out of 13, but none after the Miller one for 4 even looked remotely close to turning into a positive play. The Bucs blew up every run before it started, because they were already moving forward when the ball was snapped. And the runs kept coming.

The last 11 rushes (again, these are mostly after it was clear that the Bucs were anticipating pre-snap pattern on these plays): 1, -1, -1 (safety), 0, -2, 1, 2, 1, 1, -2, -3. Not only that, but every single one of the 13 RB runs was on 1st or 2nd and long. The Dolphins got one rushing first down all game, and it was Tannehill.

I'm just telling you their thought process. Interceptions are way harder to come buy for corners than TDs are for starting running backs. WHen they see that ball they see $$$.

Not that Revis needs it but still. Interceptions are cool, yo.

Keep in mind we're talking about guys with IQs of 92.

Yea, but Philbin doesn't think that Go for pass and GoGo for run is a problem.

I seriously think that a coach's ego gets bruised when his team can't "pound the rock" or "control the trenches" or whatever useless cliche they like to spout. So they get angrier and angrier as the game goes on and are hellbent on, well, establishing something resembling a run game even despite all explicit evidence that it's not going to happen.

And these guys get paid millions of dollars to do this.

Oh sure, I agree with all of that. But we both know not one coach on the Bucs staff mentioned this to the D on 4th down, and I guess that's the point I'm trying to make.

On third down, they knew exactly how much time they needed to run off the clock to end the game. Probably just easier to do it that way.

More teams should have actual hail mary plays. Instead of bombing it to the end zone, why not have 1 guy curl at the 10 yard line on the far left of the field, he cuts back, catches the ball at say the 20. Then all the defence naturally rushes to that side of the field. Lateral it to the other sideline, boom easy td

Umm they did waste time the first two plays and the announcers were talking about it
When there was close to a tackle about to be made he just fell over , it was fine

They should just make kneeling it not count as any kind of yardage statistic tho
Like not crediting a stolen base in Baseball due to indifference

College football counts kneeldowns as "team rushes" and the QB does not get any rushing yards deducted.

For some reason, the NFL does not do this and kneeldowns count as negative yardage against the QB, which is well known to anybody who has lost a fantasy football game by 0.1 points because of this.

It shouldn't count as anything

They should just end the game honestly
U should be able to just forfeit a down and start a new play-clock while the game clock runs as well

Which is doubly bizarre because in college sacks count as negative individual rushing yards for the QB, whereas in the NFL they count as negative team passing yards and dont hurt the QB at all.
