Yeah I don't imagine much wind can get in there.

Lucas Oil (the colts new stadium that is fairly comparable) even has a giant window over one endzone and I've yet to see the flags atop to goalposts move at all when its open.

Pretty funny to claim he can't hit a 50 yarder when he already has,

Fisher claimed it was due to the wind.

If a kicker can kick a 60 yard field goal with no wind, he can kick a 50 yard field goal with wind.

They claimed before Sunday Night Football started that Rob Bironas tried a bunch of kicks to that side of the stadium (the side he would have had to kick the winning FG to) from like 50 yards and all of them fell short. Surprised i'm apparently the only one who saw this as it was after all the games were finished and obv I switched the channel to NBC like I assumed everyone else would.

There is simply no way 10 yards of wind could get into that stadium. And of course a kicker is going to have a few extra yards because of adrenaline.

I just don't understand why if you wouldn't kick it because of the wind, why you'd think it was a good idea to run a 30 yard timing route that would probably be just as affected by the wind.

the tv stooges actually bashed the playcall (what Shinola said) and the not kicking cause of adrenaline (what Riverman said).

So at this point, I'm thinking you were incorrect. Regardless you look like a total douche imo to have insulted people so much for not knowing this rule, when in reality theres a ton of uncertainty around it.

Fisher was interviewed and basically said the same thing. Although he admitted to being wrong in choosing to take the wind in the 3rd quarter instead of the 4th. He basically said "I thought we were going to come out and dominate them in the 3rd. It was a mistake on my part there. This one is on me. However, it was definitely the right decision to not kick there considering the circumstances."

Fisher may have claimed it was b/c of the wind. maybe he even thought so. but in this case it doesn't really matter WHY, it just matters that he didn't think his guy could make it, and he had some evidence for thinking so. maybe Bironas is a little banged up. who knows.

also, adrenaline is a stupid reason to try. guys are always longer in warmups than in the actual game

First of all, he's begging the question here when he says he "took the wind in the 3rd". Was there even wind? In the 3rd quarter...in any quarter? I just don't think so. Not enough to call it "wind". And not enough to kill a 49 yard FG attempt from an awesome kicker who has a history of kicking well here (he kicked 8 FGs in a game last year).

And whether or not he was wrong about "taking the wind" in the 3rd because they'd "dominate", doesn't matter. The situation he was left with in the 4th begged for the FG attempt. Regardless of how wrong his plans had went. I don't know what "circumstances" he's talking about, but unless Bironas was hurting and we don't know about it, this was a poor decision. 4th and 3 is certainly no gimme. Collins had thrown sh*tty short passes all game (actually his two best passes were vertical passes). And their run game didn't do much up to that point.

What he SHOULD have done was put God in the game on 4th and 3 to run it 32 yards for the touchdown like he did 2 years ago.

I actually don't really mind going for it, a 50 yard kick is by no means a gimme and the prospect of getting more yardage to make the kick easier plus taking time off the clock so that Houston would have less time to get into field goal range probably makes it a much closer decision than most people think. I don't understand why you would throw a low percentage deep ball though.

I agree with this. Going for it was ok, but that playcall was just bad.

The NFL Network guys also said the ball had to break the plane, and IIRc reported that the referee said afterward that the ball clearly did break the plane on replay (something they all disagreed with, as far as being clear).

What's odd is the way the ref didn't mention the ball breaking the plane in his explanation at the time. He just said two feet down with possession in the endzone, making me think he either didn't understand the rule or didn't realize what the crux of the play was.

I think the bigger problem with Fisher is that he threw the ball 15 times and ran it 5 times in the second half. When you have CJ and Lendale you should use them. I am sure they had some short options on the pass route, but Collins saw McCareins (I think?) open and just missed on the throw. It's not like the play call was "Go deep".

ironically the jets recovered the fumble and ended up scoring on the play after the timeout, but calling a timeout with 206 left instead of letting the clock round down to the 2 minute warning and saving the TO was pretty stupid

Wow, so wrong. You should be able to figure out why, especially considering it was their first timeout used.

Also, the fact that there was 2:06 was WHY the Bills tried to pass the ball, and probably even why they tried a rollout (to make sure the play would take at least 6 seconds) since the clock would stop immediately after that play anyway. So the timeout WON them the game, and there was no irony to found (other than maybe that Favre benefited from another QB's epic late game fail).

Mangenius going for it on 4th and 4 from his own 20 with ~2 minutes left

Mangenius not going for it on the first drive of the game on 4th and goal from the 3.

I wonder if Mangini can even get a coordinator job next season.
